NSHI have a vacancy for a Band 7 Registered General Nurse (NMC Registered) to facilitate and support headache patients in receiving therapy reviews and optimum treatment within Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust.
This is a 12-month fixed-term contract.
Queen Elizabeth hospital:
Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust provides acute and community services to a diverse population across the boroughs of Lewisham, Greenwich, and Bexley. Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich is one of the Trust's main sites, delivering a wide range of specialist and general medical services to support the healthcare needs of over one million people in Southeast London.
The successful candidate will be an active member of the neurology team and will play a key role in improving the management of patients with headache conditions. They will also support ongoing service development and pathway improvement in collaboration with the broader multidisciplinary team.
Minimum requirements:
o Band 7 RGN
o NMC Registered
o Part time - equivalent to 3 days per week - flexible days / hours per week
o Based within the Trust's two sites; Queen Elizabeth hospital and university Hospital Lewisham, so some cross -site working will be required
o Start at the earliest opportunity allowing for any notice period
Roles and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate's roles and responsibilities will include:
Telephone Follow-Ups: Conduct regular follow-ups (3 months after initiation, followed by annual reviews) for stable patients.
Review treatment plans, monitor progress, and escalate complex cases to the consultant.
Procedure Support: Assist with or perform headache procedures (e.g. botulinum toxin type A injections, ONBs) under supervision
Administrative support: Help streamline scheduling of new and follow-up appointments, including the required 3 month reviews for anti- calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) therapies, and improve access to these treatments. Organise follow-up appointment logistics, headache diaries, management and submission of prescription and homecare registration forms
Ward-Based Headache Management: Coordinate care for acute headache presentations in the Emergency Department and Inpatient wards. When appropriate, assist or administer treatments and facilitate timely discharge from Inpatients to reduce mean length of stay
Patient Education and self-management support: Provide structured education on headache triggers, lifestyle changes, and medication adherence. Empower patients to manage their condition and reduce exacerbations, relapse or emergency visits
Service Coordination and Data Collection: Support audit and KPI tracking during the pilot phase to contribute to service improvement initiatives in the long term. Collect, collate and share patient experience feedback

Package:
The successful applicant will be contracted to work an average of 27 hours per week, on a flexible basis to suit the needs of the candidate and the centre. This will be 3 days every week although there is also some flexibility in the actual days worked. The role will be based across both hospitals within the Trust.
FTE Annual Salary 55,055 (Three days pro-rata = 36,333)
