Working under the supervision of the Nursing Team and GP Partners and in accordance with specific Practice guidelines and protocols, the post-holder will be responsible for the following
Duties and responsibilities
Assist in and performing routine tasks related to patient care as directed by the doctors and nursing team, working to Practice protocols.
Undertake ECGs as required for interpretation by the requesting clinician.
Carry out simple dressings under the guidance and care plan of a registered nurse.
Remove simple sutures after either hospital or Practice procedures.
Perform hearing tests as required for the requesting clinician for interpretation.
Complete various measurements on patients as required including weight, height, blood pressure and smoking status.
Manage urine specimens, testing as required in house and preparing samples for onward transition to the hospital laboratory.
Carry out limited phlebotomy duties and preparing samples for transfer to the hospital laboratory for testing.
Finger prick sampling for anti-coagulation clinic using Coagucheck XS kit and INR Star computer dosing software in strict accordance with Practice protocols for patients who have an INR within the agreed ranges.
Complete new patient registration health checks for patients which opt for this on registration with the Practice.
Support with initial stages of long-term condition review such as blood pressure, weight, height and foot checks (with second part of review undertaken by registered nurse).
Simple blood pressure checks - reporting findings to the clinical team.
Undertake NHS Health checks (cardiovascular screening) in line with the national screening programme using an algorithm to determine a patients QRISK score and the likelihood of a cardiovascular episode. This is protocol driven.
Assist clinicians with minor surgical procedures, preparing and clearing the clinical area used for the procedure.
Act as a chaperone for other clinicians as required.
Participate with Infection Control Processes in stocking clinical areas and undertaking an IFC check of clinical areas on a daily basis.
Monitoring and ordering the Practice stock of medical consumables.
