Job Overview



The Health & Safety Assistant will support our commitment to a safe, compliant, and continuously improving working environment. You will play a key role in promoting a positive safety culture, supporting compliance, and helping drive initiatives that protect our people and the business.

This is a hands-on, operationally focused role with opportunities to influence safety practices, support process improvements, and gain exposure to regulatory compliance, audits, and integrated management systems within a dynamic manufacturing environment.

What you'll be doing:



Support the Health & Safety Manager in conducting audits, inspections, and risk assessments, and monitor the completion of corrective actions. Assist with recording, investigating, and reporting accidents and near misses, ensuring documentation is accurate and timely. Deliver Health & Safety inductions for new employees and support ongoing safety training initiatives, including Toolbox Talks. Help maintain a safe working environment for staff, visitors, and contractors by monitoring compliance with safety standards, including office and production areas. Carry out office safety activities such as fire drills, first aid, and fire warden duties. Support the creation and review of standard operating procedures (SOPs), and forms to maintain the integrated management system. Assist with third-party accreditation audits and ensure contractor and haulier records are complete, including safety inductions. Monitor the safe use of company vehicles, including forklifts, lorries, and cars, supporting audits and compliance checks. Attend Health & Safety meetings and record minutes, ensuring action items are followed up. Take an active role in promoting a culture of safety awareness and continuous improvement. Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Health & Safety Manager.

About You:



You'll need to have:

Minimum of 2 years' experience in Health & Safety within manufacturing or a similar environment. A proactive, hands-on approach with a passion for maintaining a safe working environment. Interest in health and safety law and regulations, with the ability to understand and apply requirements. Strong communication skills with the ability to engage and motivate people at all levels. Confidence to raise concerns and challenge appropriately when necessary. Logical thinker with strong problem-solving skills and a systematic approach. Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

It would be great if you have:



1. NEBOSH certification or equivalent.

2. Membership of the Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH).
