The Role
At Matrix Renewables we are seeking an experienced Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Manager to join our growing team. The HSE Manager will play a key role in ensuring that all activities across our renewable projects, particularly large-scale battery energy storage sites, are conducted in full compliance with UK health and safety (CDM), and environmental regulations, as well as the company's internal standards.
The position requires a proactive leader with strong technical expertise, extensive field experience, and the ability to foster a culture of safety and environmental responsibility across multidisciplinary teams and contractors.

Key activities and responsibilities:
Develop, implement, and continuously improve the company's HSE management systems in line with UK legislation (CDM) and ISO standards (ISO 45001, ISO 14001).
Provide strategic HSE leadership and support to project development, construction, and operational teams.
Lead risk assessments and ensure effective control measures are implemented.
Oversee contractor HSE performance and ensure compliance with CDM Regulations and client requirements.
Conduct site inspections and audits, reporting findings and driving continuous improvement.
Manage incident investigations and root cause analyses, ensuring lessons learned are shared across the organisation.
Liaise with regulatory authorities, local stakeholders, and other external bodies as required.
Coordinate environmental assessments, waste management plans, and biodiversity protection measures.
Support ESG and sustainability reporting with accurate environmental data and performance metrics.
Promote a positive HSE culture through training, engagement, and leadership by example.
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum 10 years of professional experience in Health & Safety, ideally within renewable energy, utilities, or construction sectors.
Proven track record managing HSE on large-scale infrastructure or energy projects, preferably including Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), solar PV, or wind.
Strong working knowledge of UK H&S legislation and CDM Regulations.
Experience in environmental management and compliance with UK environmental permitting and reporting requirements.
NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification (Chartered status with IOSH desirable).
Relevant degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Health & Safety, or related field.
Excellent communication and leadership skills; ability to influence across all levels of the organisation.
Willingness to travel to project sites across the UK, including Scotland
