The Health & Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining all workplace health, safety, and environmental systems within the organisation. Operating within a manufacturing environment, this role ensures the safety of employees, compliance with legislation, and continual improvement of safety culture and performance across all operations, including production, warehousing, and logistics.

Main Roles and Responsibilities



Risk Management & Prevention



Conduct regular workplace inspections, audits, and comprehensive risk assessments across all production and operational areas. Identify workplace hazards and implement effective corrective and preventive actions. Monitor and enforce the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE) across all departments. Review safety implications of new machinery, equipment, and processes within the manufacturing environment. Support environmental management initiatives, ensuring activities align with sustainability and legal expectations.

Incident Management



Lead investigations of workplace accidents, incidents, and near misses, ensuring thorough root?cause analysis. Prepare detailed incident and investigation reports, recommending preventative measures to avoid recurrence. Track trends in safety incidents and implement improvement plans.

Training & Culture Development



Deliver engaging health and safety training sessions, inductions, and toolbox talks for all employees, contractors, and visitors. Promote and embed a strong safety-first culture throughout production, assembly, warehousing, and office functions. Coach and influence managers and supervisors to maintain and improve workplace safety practices.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement



Work closely with Production, Operations, HR, Facilities, and Engineering teams to ensure integrated safety processes and controls. Participate in cross-functional meetings to provide expert guidance on safety matters. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in safety systems, equipment, and working practices. Support the implementation of new business initiatives or projects by assessing and advising on safety requirements.

Essential and Desirable Skills



Professional safety certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA, or equivalent (NEBOSH strongly preferred). Membership or working toward membership with IOSH (GradIOSH / CMIOSH). Experience implementing ISO standards (e.g., ISO 45001, ISO 14001). Knowledge of ergonomics, manual handling, and workplace welfare best practices relevant to chair manufacturing. Strong and up?to?date knowledge of health and safety regulations, legislation, and industry standards. Demonstrated ability to conduct detailed risk assessments, safety audits, inspections, and accident investigations, as well as deliver effective health and safety training, toolbox talks, and employee inductions. Strong analytical and problem?solving abilities with the ability to interpret hazards and implement effective corrective actions. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels. Proficiency in report writing, documentation, and maintaining accurate safety records. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with digital health & safety management systems.
