Adecco\'s specialist Property & Safety Division has been commissioned to recruit a Health & Safety Manager on a permanent basis.

Our client operates one of the UK\'s largest Modular factories and is actively recruiting a Health & Safety Manager to join its growing team based in Sheffield.

The Health & Safety Team is fundamental to the business\'s future success as it maintains and builds on the existing accreditations and certifications, which include ISO9001, ISO14001, STA, BOPAS and crucially ISO45001.

Role

Based at the Sheffield site, the Health & Safety Manager role is arguable one of the most critical functions within the business as its employees\' safety is the organisations primary concern.

Duties include:

  • Carry out risk assessments for both the main Factory facility and also for onsite works.
  • Outline and create Safe System of Work (SSOW) policies and procedures.
  • Undertaken regular factory floor and office inspections to identify new hazards and ensure correct procedures are being followed.
  • Contribute to the review of Sub-contractor\'s method statements along with the Project & Site Management teams.
  • Implement and maintain an effective Health and Safety management system for all our construction sites.
  • Provide advice, guidance and support to all staff, contractors and clients on all aspects of Health and Safety.
  • Keep records of inspection findings and produce and deliver reports that suggest improvements.
  • Set the Toolbox Talks topics for Supervisors to present to all site personnel. Monitor the satisfactory delivery of the talks both in numbers and quality of presentation.
  • Undertake inductions for all external visitors and new employees.
  • Carry out regular site inspections to check policies and procedures are being fully implemented by site management.
  • Ensure working practices are safe and comply with legislation.
  • Prepare health and safety strategies and develop internal policies.
  • Lead in-house training with managers and employees.
  • Ensure that all roles identified within the Factory are filled by appropriately trained and competent people and bring to the attention of the Manufacturing management any deficiencies identified.
  • Organise regular fire evacuations.
  • Investigate incidents, accidents and near misses and identify root cause and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Keep up to date with new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of all Health and Safety Executive (HSE) legislation and any developments that affect the offsite and construction sectors.
  • Attend Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) seminars and read professional journals.
  • Be prime point of contact for any HSE visits or enquiries.
  • Produce newsletters and safety bulletins along with weekly headline reports for Senior Management.
  • Ensure work equipment is installed and being operated safely.
  • Manage and organise the safe disposal of hazardous substances, e.g. asbestos and chemicals
  • Advise on a range of specialist areas, e.g. fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery, hand arm vibration and occupational diseases.
  • Develop and report business KPIs.
  • Support the Quality and Manufacturing Teams in developing \'best in class\' controls.

Experience
  • Minimum five years\' experience in a similar role, preferably in the offsite or traditional construction sector.
  • NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety - consideration will be given to those with a National Certificate and currently studying towards the Diploma.
  • Experience of delivering H&S training.
  • Hands-on experience with H&S systems and methodologies.
  • Capable of managing projects/work packages.
  • In-depth experience of ISO45001
  • Capable of guiding and supporting more junior members of the team.
  • In-depth understanding of legislation and compliance.
Desirable
  • Understanding of offsite manufacturing, ideally volumetric construction
  • Graduate member of IOSH.
  • NVQ Level 5 in H&S/NVQ Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health
  • Fire Manager Certificate.
  • First Aid at Work.
  • Understanding of ISO14001 and sustainability legislation and targets.
  • Working knowledge of ISO9001.
