About the Role
We are seeking an experienced
Health & Safety Tutor
to deliver
accredited Level 2 Health & Safety in the Workplace
and
accredited Manual Handling
courses to men in custody at HMP Woodhill.
This is a full-time, classroom-based role within a busy training prison. The successful candidate will deliver intensive cohort-based training, provide learner support, and ensure accurate assessment and certification in line with awarding body requirements.

Key Responsibilities
Deliver accredited Level 2 Health & Safety and Manual Handling courses
Plan and deliver structured sessions in line with the approved curriculum
Use blended delivery methods, including digital resources and face-to-face teaching
Complete learner registrations, assessments and evidence portfolios
Maintain accurate attendance, progress and achievement records
Provide reasonable adjustments and support for learners with additional needs
Liaise with prison education and reducing reoffending teams
Support awarding body verification and quality assurance processes
Ensure compliance with prison security, safeguarding and professional boundaries

Essential Requirements
Experience delivering Health & Safety and/or Manual Handling training
Recognised Health & Safety qualification (minimum Level 2; Level 3 desirable)
Experience teaching or training adults
Strong classroom management and communication skills
Level 2 English (or equivalent)
Willingness and ability to obtain prison security clearance
Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply)

Desirable Experience
Experience working in prisons or secure environments
Experience delivering accredited vocational qualifications
Familiarity with awarding body standards (e.g. City & Guilds, Highfield, Ascentis)
Understanding of inclusive and trauma-informed teaching approaches

Safeguarding and Security
Appointment is subject to:
Enhanced DBS clearance
Successful prison security vetting
Completion of mandatory safeguarding and prison induction training
Candidates are advised not to resign from any current employment until security clearance is confirmed and a formal agreement is issued.
