Job Description

Maritime Health Partnership is an innovative and forward-thinking Group of Surgeries based in Medway and Maidstone area of Kent. With strong background in training and development of experienced primary care workforce, we are seeking a Healthcare Assistant who is eager to make a difference in and to our Practices.

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Nurse Manager and Practice Nurses in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the post-holder will be responsible for performing venepuncture and skin punctures competently and expediently to obtain blood samples from patients.

You will work effectively within the nursing team and alongside the reception/admin team and multidisciplinary team. You will be expected to attend regular staff meetings and in-house trainings.

To carry out assigned tasks involving direct care of patients, with the support of the nursing team and with appropriate training.

Administrative tasks, and where appropriate training has been undertaken, extended roles.

To follow all practice procedures and protocols.

Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirming their agreement to the collection of a blood sample

Collection of sample(s) of blood in accordance with training and procedures

Ensuring samples are stored in appropriate containers

Accurate, labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity

Checking patient identification against GP/nurse request and confirming with patient whenever possible

Display courteous, professional manner towards patients, co-workers and clinical staff

Demonstrate knowledge of colour top tube to use, volume of blood needed and test requirements

Dispose all sharp instruments in a rigid sharp container

Recording collection of blood sample in patient record in accordance with practice procedure

Ensuring that samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion.

Ensuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff

Notifying the GP/nurse of any significant patient issues

To deliver new patient health checks

To provide a phlebotomy service for patients

To deliver tissue viability/wound management to include dressings and

compression bandaging after appropriate assessment by RGN

Removal of sutures/clips

Blood pressure checks and monitoring

Recording ECGs

Provide general urine testing and recording and specialist tests for glucose and

micro albumin

Weight/height measurement and management

Assistance at family planning clinic once a month

Chaperoning, as appropriate

Liaising with and assisting members of the administrative team

Exception report problems with equipment and supplies

Check and record fridge temperatures to maintain the cold chain

Check and re-stock GP rooms regularly

Qualifications, Experience & Requirements



Preferred to have phlebotomy and/or wound care qualifications Needs evidence of a Care Certificate Ideally Primary Care experience Needs to be fully vaccinated Expected to be able to work between all 4 sites.

Disclosure and Barring Service Check



This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Successful candidates must provide full immunisation history.
