Job Description

The following are the core responsibilities of the Healthcare Assistant in delivering health services. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks. This will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels. New patient health checks Timed annual patient checks CVD Risk assessment check ups ECG recording Phlebotomy Chaperoning duties Assisting during minor surgery procedures including the GPSI in dermatology procedures Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/Nurses Sterilising (if required), cleansing and maintenance of surgical equipment Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording Assistance with surgical equipment re-stocking and stock rotation Assisting with the clearing and re-stocking of consulting rooms Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being Consult with patients and their families to undertake assessments of patient need Provide clinical support to registered nurses and other healthcare professionals within the organisation Deliver basic clinical care interventions under supervision, supporting continuity of care and patient safety initiatives Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the organisations IPC Policy Work within national and local protocols where these exist Be aware of your duties and responsibilities regarding current legislation and adhere to practice policies and procedures on Safeguarding Adults and Safeguarding Children Recognise the boundaries of their practice and know when and to whom patients should be referred Support in the delivery of enhanced services and other service requirements Support the administrative team on an as-required basis Undertake all mandatory training and induction programmes Contribute to and embrace the spectrum of clinical governance Maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times Attend a formal appraisal with their manager at least every 12 months.



Once a performance/training objective has been set, progress will be reviewed on a regular basis so that new objectives can be agreed Other tasks and procedures commensurate to grade and level but always seeking clarity and advice from senior staff Provide cover for sickness and holiday absence of colleagues on the same rota Please see the job description for further information
