Healthcare Science Assistant
Location: Derry / Londonderry
Salary: 12.91 - 20.80 per hour (dependent on shift worked)
Contract Type: Full-time | Shift work including weekends and bank holidays
About the Role:
Join our dynamic laboratory team and play a vital role in supporting high-quality diagnostic services across multiple pathology disciplines. As a Healthcare Science Assistant, you'll work within specimen reception and assist in the preparation, processing, and analysis of clinical samples. This is a hands-on role requiring attention to detail, teamwork, and a commitment to patient care.
Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare and process clinical samples for analysis
• Perform manual laboratory tests and assist with diagnostic procedures
• Operate and maintain lab equipment including centrifuges and safety cabinets
• Support clinical trials and research sample handling
• Ensure compliance with health & safety, COSHH, GDPR, and UN3373 regulations
• Maintain accurate records and contribute to quality assurance systems
• Participate in a 24/7 rota including weekends and bank holidays
• Essential Criteria

Qualifications:
5 GCSEs (Grade A-C) including English Language and one science subject
OR equivalent qualifications/experience
Skills & Attributes:

• Ability to prioritise urgent samples and manage workload independently
• Strong communication and IT skills
• Commitment to confidentiality and patient safety
