Job Summary

We are seeking a reliable and skilled Class 1 Driver to join our logistics team. The successful candidate will from our site in Bury St Edmunds. The hours will range from a minimum of 45 to a maximum of 70 hours per week, with with the potential for some weekend work. The work will mainly be the collection of freight from local ETSF sheds in Ipswich and Felixstowe, collections of containers from the Port of Felixstowe and general freight collections from local customers. This could include daily routes to partner companies in East Anglia and a pallet network hub(s). There will also be a need to cover other drivers when on holiday or sick.

Duties

Operate lorries in a safe and efficient manner while adhering to all traffic laws and regulations. Conduct pre-trip inspections to ensure the vehicle is in good working condition. Load and unload cargo, ensuring that all items are secured properly for transport. Plan routes effectively to optimise delivery schedules and minimise delays. Maintain accurate records of deliveries, including logs of mileage and fuel consumption. Communicate with dispatchers and customers regarding delivery status and any potential issues. Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations while on the road and at delivery sites.

Requirements

Valid HGV (Heavy Goods Vehicle) licence with appropriate endorsements for commercial driving. RHIDES Card - FXT Port Experience Proven experience as a delivery driver, preferably with flatbed lorries. Strong knowledge of road safety regulations and best practices in transportation. Excellent time management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines. Good communication skills for effective interaction with customers and team members. Ability to handle physical demands of the job, including lifting heavy items when necessary. A clean driving record is preferred; candidates may be subject to background checks as part of the hiring process.
