JOB OVERVIEW

We are seeking a reliable and skilled

HGV Fitter

to join our waste management and haulage operations. This role focuses on the maintenance, repair, and inspection of

skip lorries, flatbed vehicles, and associated plant

, ensuring our fleet remains safe, compliant, and operational at all times.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting day-to-day waste management services through effective vehicle upkeep, adherence to

Planned Maintenance Inspections (PMIs)

, and compliance with roadworthiness and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Carry out routine servicing, inspections, and

PMIs

on skip lorries, flatbeds, and other commercial vehicles Diagnose, repair, and replace mechanical faults in line with DVSA and safety standards Ensure all vehicles are maintained to a roadworthy condition, minimising downtime Support installation, repair, and maintenance of waste management equipment and vehicle-mounted systems Conduct and document pre-use and post-repair vehicle checks Maintain accurate maintenance records, defect reports, and service logs Drive company vehicles when required, including skip lorries and flatbeds, ensuring safe operation Work closely with operations teams to prioritise repairs and support delivery and collection schedules Adhere strictly to health, safety, and environmental regulations across all works

Skills & Experience

Proven experience working on

HGVs

, ideally within

waste management or skip lorry operations

Strong understanding of commercial vehicle maintenance, diagnostics, and repair processes Knowledge of

PMI requirements

, defect rectification, and compliance standards Confident operating skip lorries, flatbed vehicles, and related equipment Full UK driving licence (HGV licence desirable but not essential) with a clean driving record Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records Able to work independently while supporting a wider operational team Practical, problem-solving mindset with a proactive approach to vehicle reliability
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent

Pay: 55,000.00-65,000.00 per year

Expected hours: 30 - 40 per week
