Reporting to the Ganger/Supervisor, this role plays a key part in delivering a first-class service to our customers through high-quality maintenance of the highway network. You'll contribute to the safe and efficient upkeep of our roads, ensuring that all activities align with the strategies and policies set by the County Council and Essex Highways.
Strong customer service skills are essential, as you'll be expected to uphold the highest standards within the team. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities are also crucial to ensure that all interactions are handled professionally and courteously, and that customers clearly understand the services and standards the Council provides.
The Role
Pothole repairs and carriageway defect reinstatements
Carriageway and footway patching and construction
Drainage works, including pipe laying, ironwork resetting, and construction of gullies and access chambers
Kerbing installation and associated works
Installation of road signs and other minor civil engineering tasks
About You
A current, valid driving licence is essential; LGV Class 2 entitlement is highly desirable
New Roads and Street Works (NRSWA) or NHSS 12 training and qualifications are highly beneficial
Experience using handheld technology (e.g., PDAs, smartphones) is advantageous but not essential
Local knowledge of the county and a good understanding of highways maintenance are beneficial
A solid understanding of health and safety and its impact on the workplace is essential
