High Voltage Electrical Technician
Responsible for performing a variety of electrical trade functions such as the installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of equipment for the generation, distribution, or utilization of high voltage electric energy. Maintains electrical systems and components of electrical power distribution and generating equipment. Performs operations and maintenance duties to maintain power to telecommunications equipment and maintains the facility's physical electrical distribution system in good repair.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform maintenance, switching operations, installation, testing, troubleshooting, repairs, replacements, and commissioning of high-voltage electrical distribution systems, including transformers, switches, power circuit breakers, metal-clad switchgear assemblies, manholes, power cables, protective relays, metering and control circuits, and related equipment operating at 5kV, 10kV, and 20kV levels.
  • Install, adjust, and repair a wide range of electrical and electronic equipment such as programmable logic controllers (PLCs), recorders, transmitters, transducers, motor control centers, power lift trucks, lighting systems, HVAC equipment, electric motors, control panels, relays, conduit systems, and switchgear.
  • Operate key components of medium and high-voltage distribution systems, including isolation switches, interrupters, capacitor banks, voltage regulators, and transformers.
  • Install, modify, connect, and repair both overhead and underground electrical distribution lines and components, including insulators, grounding systems, fuses, poles, air switches, and lightning arresters.
  • Operate heavy equipment, including boom trucks, JLG lifts, and other excavation or access machinery required to support electrical system operations.
  • Carry out a full range of electrical trade functions, such as installing, maintaining, and repairing substations, switchboards, circuit breakers, transformers, and other associated infrastructure within the electrical distribution network.
  • Interpret and work from technical documents including blueprints, schematics, drawings, and specifications to install new systems or equipment and diagnose faults in existing installations.
  • Support the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of high-voltage switchgear, electric switches, exciters, electric meters, and other key power system components.
Qualifications:
  • Must have knowledge of electrical theory, safety regulations, and the ability to use specialized high voltage tools and equipment.
  • Must be a US citizen with valid passport and Driver's License
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; must speak and understand English in order to coordinate movement on the ramps via two-way radios
  • Accredited professional trade school or successful completion of apprenticeship program or military training for the electrical field.
  • Must be certified and trained on medium and/or high voltage
  • Training on CAT generators (1 MW or greater) preferred
  • Ability to read electrical drawings, troubleshoot issues, and use specialized high voltage testing equipment.
  • Minimum two years experience as a high voltage training
  • Familiarity with NEC
  • Must be able to use these materials and equipment:
  • Computers, Microsoft Office, and other software products as required and standard office equipment/machinery.
  • Hand and power tools, multi-meters, other test equipment as required.
Requirements: * Must maintain a valid driver's license from their home country with validity for 12 months from on-site employment date. (able to drive manual transmission)
  • Must maintain a valid passport from their home country with validity for 12 months from on-site employment date
  • Must be able to gain and maintain authorized entry onto US military installations.
  • Must meet United States Department of Defense medical requirements necessary to live and work at Ascension Island
  • Must be able to pass employment and deployment qualification requirements that include psychological, medical, dental, drug testing and background checks.
  • Must pass a flight line access test and obtain flight line access badge upon deployment.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Perform 24-hour on call duties on a rotating basis
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the maintenance supervisor or maintenance chief
  • Uses all equipment safely
Location & Compensation:
  • Accension Island, South Atlantic Ocean
  • Pay: $39.43 p/hr ($82k p/yr)
