Job Description


Justteachers are currently seeking an enthusiastic and committed Teaching Assistant for one of its partner schools in Leigh.

In this role you will be required to provide PPA cover and absence cover to whole classes across the cross. Flexible between Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 is essential for this role. You will plan, prepare and deliver lessons and assess, record and report on development, progress and attainment, under the direction of class teachers.

This role offers the opportunity to join a unique and diverse community school. The school were fortunate enough to move into a fantastic new school building in October 2009 and their children benefit greatly from their state-of-the-art technology and purpose-built facilities.

This role is set to commence in September 2023.

Your main responsibilities will be:

Support for the pupil

  • Establish productive working relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and setting high expectations.
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all groups of pupils within the classroom.
  • Support pupils consistently whilst recognising and responding to their individual needs. Encourage pupils to interact and work co-operatively with others and engage all pupils in activities.
  • Promote independence and employ strategies to recognise and reward achievement and self-reliance.
  • Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement.
Support for the teacher
  • Organise and manage appropriate learning environments and resources.
  • With an agreed system of supervision, plan challenging teaching and learning objectives to evaluate and adjust lessons as appropriate.
  • Provide objective and accurate feedback and records as required on pupil achievement, progress and other matters, ensuring the availability of appropriate evidence.
  • Record progress and achievement in lessons systematically and provide evidence of range and rates of progress and attainment.
  • Work with an established positive behaviour policy to anticipate and manage behaviour constructively, promoting self-control and independence.
  • Produce lesson and intervention plans for the class teacher.
Support for the curriculum
  • Deliver agreed learning activities/learning programmes, adjusting activities according to pupil learning styles and individual needs.
  • Deliver literacy/numeracy programmes effectively.
  • Support the use of computing in learning activities and develop pupils\xe2\x80\x99 competence and independence in its use.
  • Assist pupils to access learning activities through specialist support e.g. curriculum/SEN specialism
  • Select and prepare resources necessary to lead learning activities, taking into account of pupil\'s interests and cultural backgrounds.
Support for a school
  • Be aware of and comply with school policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection. Report all concerns to the appropriate person (as named in the policy concerned).
  • Ensure all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop.
  • Contribute to the school ethos, aims and improvement plan.
  • Establish constructive relationships and communicate with all staff and pupils, to support achievement and progress of pupils.
  • Participate in training and other learning activities as required.
  • Establish own best practice and use to support others.
  • Assist with the planning of opportunities for pupils to learn in out-of-school contexts, according to school policies and procedures and within working hours.
  • Accompany teaching staff and pupils on visits, trips and out-of-school activities as required.
You will have:
  • A Level 4 Teaching Assistant qualification or QTS
  • Excellent understanding of the national curriculum and other learning programmes (within specified age range/subject area).
  • Understanding of principles of child development, learning styles and independent learning.
  • Working knowledge of relevant policies/codes of practice/legislation
  • Understanding of inclusion, especially within a school setting.
  • Experience of resources preparation to support learning programmes
  • Effective use of ICT to support learning.
  • Understanding of other basic technology \xe2\x80\x93 interactive Whiteboard, computer-based assessment and tracking systems, uploading to website etc.
  • A clear enhanced DBS on the update service
  • Two references from within an educational environment
  • Ability to work well as part of a professional team
  • Able to work and take part in various activities
  • The ability to communicate with and inspire children of all abilities
  • Strong behaviour management skills
