We are looking for a confident, caring and proactive Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to support pupils with autism in a Year 2 class within a mainstream primary school.
This role is perfect for someone who thrives on responsibility, is comfortable using their initiative, and wants to play an active role in both supporting learning and contributing to planning. You will be working closely with the class teacher to deliver targeted support and help maintain a calm, inclusive classroom environment.
The role
You will be supporting pupils with autism and SEMH who may need extra help with transitions, emotional regulation, communication and accessing the curriculum. The role will involve:
Leading small group and 1:1 activities
Assisting with planning and preparing differentiated learning materials
Supporting in-class engagement and managing low-level behaviours
Using a consistent, nurturing approach to promote emotional wellbeing
Collaborating with the class teacher, SENDCo and wider school staff

We are looking for someone who:
Has HLTA status or significant classroom-based experience
Understands the needs of pupils with autism and how to support them in mainstream settings
Uses their initiative and contributes confidently to planning and lesson delivery
Builds warm, trusting relationships with children
Remains calm and encouraging, even during more challenging moments
Has a real passion for inclusive education and early learning

Hours
Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 3:30pm (term time only). Full-time and part-time applications are welcome.

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
