Job Description

We have an opportunity for an HLTA to join our friendly community School, commencing in September 2025. Fixed term for 1 year.



We are seeking a flexible, enthusiastic and hardworking HLTA to join our excellent team. We are looking for a highly motivated team member with the skills and experience necessary to support the needs of our pupils and to assist the teachers in promoting high standards of engagement and behaviour.



The role will include supporting pupils across the school in groups as well as some whole class teaching.



This role is for 26.4 hours per week, term time only (38 weeks) on pay Grade 9 (Scale Points 19-25).



We are seeking an HLTA that will:


Inspire and motivate our children, encouraging them to be the best they can

Be able to deliver high quality learning experiences for all pupils

Have high expectations of learning and behaviour

Be able to build sound, strong relationships with pupils

Be supportive, nurturing and understanding

Communicate well at all levels ie parents/carers and members of staff, as well as pupils

Work well as part of a team

Be flexible and have experience across all primary ages, particularly ages 7-11 (KS2)

Be able to work with independence and initiative

Be confident and skilful in leading whole classes and intervention groups


The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate that they:


Have achieved HLTA status through accredited provider

Have GCSE grade C English and Maths or equivalent as a minimum

Have an ability to use ICT effectively to support learning

Are professionally discreet and able to respect confidentiality

Have good communication skills and able to clarify and explain instructions clearly

Have experience of working in a classroom environment, particularly KS2

The pro rata salary shown is based on the number of hours and weeks worked and includes appropriate paid annual leave and bank holiday entitlements.



The salary quoted is the annual salary for the position at the time of advert. The salary will be paid in equal monthly instalments and will be adjusted at the start of employment and again if leaving part way through the school year to ensure the correct salary is received for the work completed in an academic year.



This role is UK based and your Right to Work will need to be established as part of the appointment process.

Keeping Children Safe in Education


William Barnes Primary School will conduct online searches of shortlisted candidates. This check will be part of a safeguarding check, and the search will purely be based on whether an individual is suitable to work with children. All aspects of social media and internet searches will be conducted. As care must be taken to avoid unconscious bias and any risk of discrimination, a person who will not on the appointment panel will conduct the searches and will only share information if and when findings are relevant and of concern.
