The post holder under the supervision of the Hospital Safety Team Manager & Hospital Safety Team Supervisor will provide and maintain a dedicated, comprehensive 24-hour frontline security service to the staff and patients and to ensure that all staff, clinical and non-clinical, are able to operate and go about their duties in a safe working environment. Duties are to include knowledge led patrols of the hospital and grounds to deter and detect criminal or antisocial behaviour. A key part of the role is to show a high-profile presence on wards and departments including the Accident and Emergency department that may, by their very nature, contain patients with particular issues that present violent aggressive behavioural concerns for the clinical staff trying to treat them as well communicating by calming victims who have been distressed and / or assaulted.
To provide a professional security service that will protect, advise, investigate when needed and to act in the creation and maintenance of a safe and crime free environment for staff, patients and visitors.
To ensure that staff, patients and visitors are assisted, at all times and in any appropriate matters, in a manner that reflects positively on the Trust and the service.
The post holder will need to be alert to their surroundings at all times and show a capability to "think on their feet" and make independent decisions unsupervised, to situations that evolve quickly and often without any warning, they must be able to remain calm under pressure be decisive and, where required, be assertive with compassion.
The post holder may be called upon by staff to provide advice on crime reduction, personal safety concerns or provide assistance in any number of situations through to giving directions to members of the public.
Candidates must demonstrate a willingness to be flexible and work as part of a team; must be physically fit to perform the duties and have experience in a security service environment. Good assertion skills, good customer care skills, effective written and verbal communication skills are essential. The successful applicant should also have experience of working with the general public.
