The Kitchen Porter is a critical role within our hotel, ensuring the smooth operation of our kitchen and supporting the delivery of high-quality culinary experiences. Beyond traditional kitchen porter duties, this role requires flexibility to work across multiple departments, including housekeeping, front of house, and events, to meet the operational needs of the hotel. The successful candidate will be a team player with a strong work ethic, adaptability, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, safety, and guest satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities Kitchen Porter Duties
Cleanliness and Hygiene
: Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen environment by washing dishes, utensils, pots, pans, and other kitchen equipment promptly and efficiently.
Equipment Maintenance
: Clean and sanitize kitchen appliances, work surfaces, floors, and storage areas in compliance with food safety and hygiene regulations.
Waste Management
: Dispose of kitchen waste, including food scraps and packaging, in accordance with recycling and waste management policies.
Stock Management
: Assist with receiving, unpacking, and storing deliveries of food and kitchen supplies, ensuring proper rotation and organization.
Support Culinary Team
: Assist chefs and kitchen staff with basic food preparation tasks, such as peeling, chopping, or portioning ingredients, as needed.
Compliance
: Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including proper use of cleaning chemicals and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Multi-Department Support
Housekeeping Assistance
: Support the housekeeping team by cleaning guest rooms, public areas, or back-of-house spaces, including vacuuming, dusting, and restocking supplies.
Front of House Support
: Assist with guest-facing tasks, such as setting up dining areas, clearing tables, or delivering room service orders, ensuring a seamless guest experience.
Events and Banqueting
: Help set up and break down event spaces, including arranging tables, chairs, and decorations, and providing support during functions.
General Operational Support
: Perform additional tasks across departments as directed by management to ensure the hotel operates smoothly during peak periods or staff shortages.
Skills and Qualifications
Flexibility
: Willingness to work across multiple departments and adapt to varying tasks and schedules, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Stamina
: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy items (up to 50 lbs), standing for extended periods, and working in a fast-paced environment.
Teamwork
: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across all departments.
Attention to Detail
: Commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness, organization, and guest service in all tasks.
Time Management
: Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently under pressure to meet deadlines.

: Basic verbal and written communication skills to interact with team members and follow instructions.
Experience
: Previous experience as a kitchen porter, cleaner, or in a similar role is preferred but not essential; on-the-job training will be provided.
Certifications
: Food hygiene certification is desirable but not mandatory.

Working Conditions
Schedule
: Flexible shifts, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays, based on hotel needs. Overtime may be required during peak seasons.

: Work primarily in the kitchen, with exposure to heat, steam, and cleaning chemicals. Tasks in other departments may involve indoor and outdoor settings.
Uniform
: Provided by the hotel; must be worn in accordance with grooming and hygiene standards.
