Do you have the skills to provide a comprehensive homelessness prevention and housing advice service to households who require housing advice or are at risk of homelessness?
Following a recent restructure of the Housing Needs Unit at Newport City Council we are looking to recruit to the posts of Housing Advice and Preventions Officer.
Officers will be responsible for full caseloads including housing advice, prevention; support needs assessments; Home Options Advice/processing of housing register applications for homeless cases; housing-related support. This will involve a need to assess applications for assistance in line with legislation contained within the Housing (Wales) Act 2014 and to transfer the legislation in finding practical solutions for households with an emphasis of preventing homelessness.
Our remit is for homelessness to be rare, brief and un-repeated. We are looking for enthusiastic, passionate and dynamic individuals to work as part of a team to provide a trauma informed and pro-active service to households who approach us.
Specifically, you will need to demonstrate a knowledge of homelessness and housing law as well as being able to show an ability to deal with a range of individuals from a variety of different backgrounds with varying levels of need. In addition, you will be expected to have experience of working in a homelessness service, providing housing related support or similar related area and have the ability to deal with difficult situations with empathy and diplomacy.
The role will include face to face interviewing, office-based work, community working with some home working.
