Housing Tenant Mental Health Support Worker

Job Description

To provide person-centered mental health support to tenants living in supported or independent housing. The role focuses on helping individuals maintain their tenancies, improve their mental wellbeing, and achieve greater independence through tailored support plans, community engagement, and partnership working with relevant services.

Key Responsibilities1. Support & Engagement



Develop and deliver individual support plans based on tenants' mental health needs and housing-related goals. Offer emotional support, motivation, and practical assistance in areas such as budgeting, daily living skills, medication adherence, and self-care. Promote recovery, resilience, and empowerment through strengths-based approaches.

2. Tenancy Sustainment



Support tenants to maintain their accommodation and adhere to tenancy agreements. Help manage risks such as rent arrears, anti-social behavior, or hoarding. Advocate on behalf of tenants with housing officers, landlords, and benefits agencies where appropriate.

3. Liaison & Partnership



Work collaboratively with mental health services, GPs, social workers, and voluntary sector providers. Attend and contribute to multi-agency meetings and case reviews as required. Signpost and refer tenants to specialist services (e.g., substance misuse, debt advice, training and employment).

4. Record Keeping & Monitoring



Maintain accurate and up-to-date records on all interactions and support activities. Monitor and report on tenant progress, risks, and safeguarding concerns in accordance with data protection policies.

5. Health & Safety / Safeguarding



Recognize and respond to safeguarding issues in line with organizational policies. Contribute to risk assessments and support planning for safe working practices. Promote safe and healthy living environments for tenants.

Person SpecificationEssential



Experience supporting people with mental health conditions, preferably in a housing or community setting. Knowledge of housing law, tenancy rights, and welfare benefits. Understanding of mental health conditions and the recovery model. Strong interpersonal, communication, and advocacy skills. Ability to work flexibly, independently, and as part of a team.

Desirable



Relevant qualifications (e.g., NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care, Mental Health First Aid). Experience working in partnership with statutory or voluntary services. Understanding of trauma-informed care and culturally competent practice.
Pay: 13.00 per hour

Schedule:

Day shift Monday to Friday No weekends
Work Location: In person
