If you're looking for a part-time opportunity and have a passion for helping people and working in HR, this role might be just what you're searching for.
PSS in a nutshell
At PSS, we've got an important job to do; and that's to help people make the most of their lives. Whether you're working directly with the people who use our services, or behind the scenes in one of our offices, every day you'll be helping to make other people feel happier, healthier, and more supported.
We're a social enterprise, or as we like to call it - a 'business with a heart'. This means that all the money we make goes back into finding new ways to help people. Our aim is simple; we want to help people change their lives for the better - no matter what life throws at them. We've got offices across Manchester, Merseyside, the Midlands, Wales, Lincolnshire, Norfolk, Suffolk and Yorkshire.
What's our people and culture team all about?
Our people and culture team are there to make sure our people are happy, that they feel supported, and that they're guided to be the very best they can be in their roles at PSS. We want our people to be proud of the work that they're doing when it comes to supporting people to live their best lives, no matter what role or team they're working in. Providing top-notch support will always be the ultimate goal for us, so we need people who want to be part of making sure we reach that goal day in and day out.
This team works a lot like a traditional HR team, so that means they're working on the usual HR employment law advice and support they give to managers, but they're also leading on the delivery of PSS's engagement initiatives and many areas of our wellbeing initiatives. Our people and culture team are the ticking heart behind our busy organisation, which is why it's really important that we have people who embody the PSS values and enjoy getting up and making a difference to people's lives.
About the role:
Do you want to use your administrator experience and skills whilst being part of an amazing team? We've got an exciting opportunity to join our fabulous people and culture team in Liverpool. They're a small but mighty team, it's all hands-on deck - they value people who get stuck in and are solution focused. Unsurprisingly, we're looking for a real 'people person', with a passion for HR and our organisational values. You'll be working closely with all of our friendly experienced team members on lots of different things, and you'll also have the opportunity to lead on key areas yourself.
You'll support the team with a whole raft of stuff, but these are some of the main things you'll be working on:
You'll be one of our go-to people to give friendly and professional support on general HR queries.
You'll be working alongside our team to support administrative processes and making sure accurate records are held for all our staff.
You'll be supporting our managers with the recruitment and onboarding process.
You'll be overseeing key processes such as probationary and leavers.
You'll be using your IT skills to support the production of information for reporting.
You'll be actively involved in the promotion and administration of our employee offer and incentives around staff benefits and wellbeing.
What we need from you:
First and foremost, we need someone who lives all our values of being big-hearted, genuine, determined, professional, and open-minded.
You'll also need:
To be super organised and have amazing time management skills.
A beady eye for detail to make sure the I's are dotted and T's are crossed.
To be a team player and willing to lend a hand when you can.
To be a real people person. We're looking for someone who can build and maintain good relationships with people right across PSS.
Care and professionalism when managing sensitive and confidential information
To be really confident with your IT skills - including experience of Microsoft Office applications e.g. Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Minimum English and Maths GCSE (Grade 4) or equivalent Level 2.
We're open to part-time requests for between 25 and 30 hours per week. You'll just need to be around at least four days a week, and you get to split your time between your home and our friendly Liverpool office (we all get together in person on Thursdays) in a way that works best for you.
Before you apply, we just want to let you know some key information about our selection process:
We have an equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) policy, which aims to remove any kind of discrimination in employment. Our candidates are selected on merit only, which means they'll be given equal opportunities no-matter what their age, disability, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, race, religion or beliefs might be.
Once you hit that 'apply' button, you'll be taken across to an online recruitment system called Applied. Applied is the only hiring software with diversity and fairness built into every step of the process and we're very proud to partner with them to help us give you an unbiased recruitment experience.
Applied wants to make sure its doing its job by finding out more about the socio-economic backgrounds of people applying for roles through their site. Once you register your details on the Applied site, you'll be asked to give a bit of info about you: things like your age, gender, ethnicity, etc. You'll also be asked questions around whether your parents went to university and whether you had free meals at school. These questions are set by Applied experts based on extensive research and expertise, and you can find out more about this here.
This information is completely anonymised, and here at PSS, we never see answers linked to a candidate's name. The answers you give here don't form any part of our decision-making. We only receive combined data about an applicant pool (and only when there's enough applicants to ensure that answers can remain anonymous). We report on this data every quarter to help us find out if there's anything in our process that harms the chances of success for candidates from minority groups and any possible steps to help improve this.
If you still prefer not to answer, that's no problem at all - there's also an option to select 'prefer not to say'. The only EDI-related information that we will learn about you is if you tell us that you have any reasonable adjustments needed at any part of our process.
Your trusty candidate pack will also help you get a feel for what it's like to work with us, find out what we're looking for, explain the recruitment process and help you decide whether you can see yourself as a part of our amazing team. Each section is crammed with hints and tips to help you make a great application, so please take the time to give it a good read.
Please feel free to get in touch with us if you have any questions about the above by emailing peopleandcultureteam@pss.org.uk or calling our team on 0151 702 5555.
We also welcome any feedback you might have about our approach so there'll be plenty of opportunities for you to give this as part of the process.
