Job Description


The HR team at Woking Borough Council are seeking a confident and customer focussed individual who is passionate about Human Resources. We are looking for someone with in depth knowledge of HR policies and procedures, a keen eye for detail and a compassionate nature.

This role is ideal for someone who is looking for an exciting new opportunity with potential for growth and progression. The team is busy so you will play a significant part in delivering first-rate service to our customers, expect to make an impact from day one.

Key responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

Recruitment

  • End to end recruitment and selection for employees - including writing adverts, posting on job boards, reviewing applicants, arranging, and sitting in on interviews panels, and providing offer letters/feedback
  • Liaising with recruitment agencies
  • Co-ordinating pre-employment checks, references, checking work eligibility, etc.
Generalist HR
  • Coaching and advising employees and managers regarding HR policies and procedures.
  • Dealing with sickness, maternity, paternity, and adoption absence cases.
  • Employee relations - assisting with grievances and disciplinaries.
  • Administering any changes to employment terms and conditions, including issuing letters and processing payroll information.
  • Other ad hoc HR tasks
A CIPD qualification is desired but not essential. There will be the opportunity to gain a work-based qualification for the right candidate.

You will have experience of providing advice and guidance to all levels of management, utilising coaching and influencing skills, and the ability to interpret and apply HR policies and procedures within the context of the UK legislative framework. You will demonstrate initiative and a strong commitment to providing efficient and flexible customer focused services, have excellent organisational skills, the ability to prioritise workload and work under pressure to meet deadlines.

We offer hybrid working, giving you the flexibility to work from home, although due to the nature of the role, working in the office is encouraged.

As this role requires access to large amounts of sensitive data, successful applicants will be required to obtain a Basic Disclosure Certificate from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
