HR Lead - Role Overview



Overview



This is a key role within a fast-growing company -- ideal for someone who wants meaningful

You'll be working around

You'll be our

HR Lead

, responsible for building and protecting our people systems, ensuring

compliance, and driving a positive, high-performance culture.

You'll have direct support from

Croner (our outsourced HR partner)

for compliance, advice, and

tricky cases.

As we scale, you'll help shape and grow the future People & Culture team.

The Essential Bits (the operational backbone)



These tasks keep the business compliant, stable, and running smoothly:

Oversee all

recruitment and onboarding administration

. Ensure all staff have valid

DBS, Safeguarding, and First Aid

qualifications before starting
and maintain up-to-date records.

Draft and issue contracts using company templates. Manage onboarding and induction admin. Approve

holiday requests

and ensure correct staff coverage.

Manage rotas across all sites

, ensuring adequate cover for all classes and sessions.

Coordinate last-minute sickness absence cover

, working with site leads and coaches to
minimise disruption.

Handle Flexible Working Time (FWT) requests

, assessing feasibility and making fair,
policy-aligned decisions.

Ensure site managers are managing their teams effectively

, holding them accountable for
attendance, performance, and compliance.

Design and implement clear people management processes

for site managers to follow
(reviews, check-ins, escalation routes, etc.).

Lead

disciplinary, grievance, and investigation

processes (with Croner support). Manage

staff exits

, including return-to-work and exit interviews. Liaise with

Croner, ACAS, and legal teams

as required. Handle

payroll data collation

for the accountants.o Conduct

welfare and probation reviews

, ensuring fairness and consistency.
(Note: Staff will report sickness through the normal absence process - not directly to you, but you'll

coordinate cover once notified.)

New staff onboarded smoothly and fully compliant. All required certifications are current and verified. Site managers actively manage and support their own teams. Staff feel valued, supported, and aligned with our mission. Cultural training and systems are embedded across sites.o Retention improves, turnover decreases. Disciplinary and grievance processes are consistent, fair, and quick. Rotas, holidays, and staffing levels run without gaps -- even during sickness absences. FWT requests are handled promptly, fairly, and consistently. Recognition, wellbeing, and feedback systems are active and effective.

Key Responsibilities



Recruitment & Onboarding



Hire values-aligned people who fit our culture. Oversee onboarding, contracts, and compliance. Maintain DBS, Safeguarding, and First Aid records. Implement competency sign-offs for all roles.

Staff Development & Engagement



Lead probation and quarterly reviews. Deliver cultural training and development sessions. Implement recognition and retention strategies. Design wellbeing and reward initiatives.

Culture & Organisational Development



o

Embed a positive, inclusive, values-led culture.

o

Create structures for feedback (staff check-ins, surveys, team huddles).

o

Celebrate high performance and address poor performance swiftly.

o Support and coach site managers to manage their own teams effectively.



o Implement systems that ensure site managers conduct regular reviews, handle



attendance issues, and follow correct escalation procedures.



Employee Relations



o

Manage investigations, disciplinaries, grievances, and welfare meetings.

o

Ensure fair and consistent exit processes.

o

Liaise with Croner, ACAS, and legal partners where required.

o Handle and document Flexible Working Time (FWT) requests

, balancing fairness,

operational needs, and legal compliance.

Workforce Planning & Stability



Manage rotas across all sites

, ensuring adequate staffing coverage.

Arrange last-minute sickness absence cover

to minimise disruption. Approve holidays and maintain staffing ratios. Support operations with consistent people standards across all sites. Anticipate staffing needs in line with expansion plans.

Measures of Success



Strong retention and reduced turnover. All staff compliant and trained. Clear, embedded performance and feedback systems. Site managers confidently managing their own staff with accountability and consistency. Culture is visibly positive, people-first, and values-led.

No class cancellations or service gaps due to staffing issues.

FWT requests handled promptly and fairly.

Employee complaints decrease and are resolved quickly. Excellent staff satisfaction and engagement feedback.
