HR Manager / Senior HR Generalist

Location:

Office-based (Monday-Friday, 8:30 am-5:00 pm)

Hours:

37.5 hours per week (1 hour unpaid lunch)

Flexible working:

Part-time considered for the right candidate

Salary:

34,000 - 37,000 DOE

The Role



We're looking for a proactive, confident HR professional to lead our small HR function and act as a trusted advisor to our leadership team.

This is a standalone role, supported by a developing HR Apprentice, offering autonomy and the opportunity to shape how HR operates across the business. You'll be hands-on across recruitment, employee relations, policy and compliance, HR systems, and payroll support, while also helping prepare the company for future growth and acquisitions, including TUPE activity.

You'll also take ownership of our HR system, Employment Hero, embedding it across the organisation to improve efficiency, compliance and data quality.

This role is ideal for an experienced HR Generalist ready to step into their first HR management role and make a genuine impact within a growing SME.

Key Responsibilities

Recruitment & Resourcing

Manage end-to-end recruitment for permanent and seasonal roles Partner with managers to create engaging job adverts and support interviews and selection Oversee onboarding and inductions to ensure a positive new starter experience
Policies & Compliance

Review, update and embed HR policies in line with employment law and best practice. Monitor legislative changes and proactively prepare the business Act as the first point of contact for day-to-day HR queries
Employee Relations

Support managers with conduct, absence, performance, grievance and disciplinary matters Lead or oversee investigations and formal processes where required Ensure fair, consistent and legally compliant outcomes
Organisational Development

Work with Directors on workforce planning and culture development Support management training, development and performance initiatives Encourage internal progression and leadership capability
HR Systems & Payroll

Act as system administrator for Employment Hero, managing data, workflows and reporting Train and support managers and employees in using the system Work closely with Finance to support accurate monthly payroll processing
Strategic Projects

Support business acquisitions and lead on TUPE-related HR activity Contribute to change projects impacting people, structure or processes Continuously improve HR processes for scale and compliance
Team Leadership

Line manage and develop the HR Apprentice Build HR as a visible, trusted and value-adding function
Person SpecificationEssential

CIPD Level 5 qualified (or working towards - support available) Strong HR generalist experience in a fast-paced or operational environment Confident advising managers and directors across all HR matters Good working knowledge of UK employment law Highly organised with excellent attention to detail Strong communication and influencing skills Comfortable using HR systems and handling sensitive data
Desirable

Experience using or implementing Employment Hero (or similar HR systems) Payroll experience or close collaboration with Finance/Payroll teams TUPE and acquisition experience Experience in construction, logistics, hire or events sectors
