We are seeking an experienced and proactive HR Manager to lead and manage the Human Resources function within our school. This is a key leadership role, providing operational and strategic HR support to senior leaders, line managers, and staff, ensuring the school's HR practices are effective, compliant, and aligned with our values.
The successful candidate will ensure a professional, supportive, and legally compliant HR service, contributing to staff wellbeing, recruitment excellence, and organisational development.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the full HR lifecycle including recruitment, onboarding, induction, and retention.
Provide expert advice on employee relations matters including absence, performance, disciplinary, and grievance processes.
Ensure compliance with employment law, safeguarding requirements, and safer recruitment practices.
Lead on contracts, pay progression and workforce data management.
Develop and implement HR policies and procedures.
Support senior leaders with workforce planning, restructuring, and change management.
Manage staff appraisals and performance management systems.
Lead on training and professional development planning.
Oversee and maintain accurate personnel records and HR systems.
Promote staff wellbeing, equality, and best practice across the school.
Person Specification
Essential:
Proven experience in an HR management role (education sector desirable).
Strong knowledge of employment law and HR best practice.
Experience managing employee relations cases confidently and professionally.
Excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills.
Ability to work confidentially and with integrity.
Proficient in HR systems and Microsoft Office.
Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.
CIPD Level 5 or above (or working towards).
Desirable:
Experience within a school or education setting.
Knowledge of school pay structures and conditions of service.
Experience of policy development and implementation.
