Outline
An interesting, people-centred role, supporting and resourcing the employees at Batt Broadbent Solicitors.
You will be mainly based at our Salisbury office, while also working out of our Chippenham office one day per week. There is scope to agree a weekly work pattern to suit you, for example, working shorter hours on a particular day, or spreading your hours across the working week.
We are looking for an experienced human resources professional; a self-starter able to use their initiative and to work independently; passionate about helping people to flourish in the workplace and fulfil their potential.
Responsibilities
In this interesting and varied role, you will be responsible for:
Staff relations
o Building relationships and rapport with staff
o Being a visible and reassuring presence in the offices
o Encouraging and facilitating honest and open communications between staff, line managers and partners
o Managing low-level concerns with advice, sign-posting and reassurance
o Facilitating healthy working relationships between members of staff
o Sign-posting information about pay roll, pensions, health insurance etc
Recruitment and induction processes
o Advising on effective recruitment processes, including targeted talent acquisition
o Drafting role descriptions and job advertisements
o Overseeing recruitment processes
o Administering interview processes and advising about interview tools and techniques
o Preparing contracts, taking up references, arranging right to work checks, making regulatory checks and securing regulatory approvals (DBS, SRA, ILEX etc)
o Preparing for the arrival and welcoming of new recruits
o Organising induction training and programmes
Appraisals and reviews
o Keeping track of probation periods and review periods
o Administering annual reviews and supporting line managers and partners to deliver effective appraisals
o Supporting and advising on the setting of targets and performance indicators
o Monitoring targets and raising emerging issues at an early stage
Policies
o Maintaining the firm's Staff Handbook and Office Manual
o Advising on the development of human resources policies and processes
o Arranging and maintaining up-to-date training for fire marshals, first aiders, mental health first aiders and other workplace roles
Processes
o Advising about and overseeing formal processes including grievance, capability and discipline processes
o Supporting line managers and partners in their roles under formal processes
o Arranging appropriate support and advice for staff involved in formal processes.
Departures
o Advising about and assisting with the preparation of references
o Overseeing staff exit procedures
o Arranging and administering exit interviews
o Making administrative arrangements to revoke access to premises, IT infrastructure and other facilities
o Arranging the return of firm equipment after staff departures
You will be supported in this role by an external, legally qualified employment law adviser when needed.
Skills and attributes
Core:
Relevant professional qualification (CIPD or equivalent) and significant workplace
experience
A secure understanding of relevant employment law and principles

A proven ability to act with discretion and hold information confidentiality

Desirable:
Good IT literacy and word processing skills.
Some understanding of law firms and legal regulation
Accountability
You will be working closely with the partners at a strategic level.
You will be allocated a line manager, who will be one of the partners.
