- Health & Safety Manager (Southern Airports & Off-Airport Projects)



Location:

Base - Crawley Office. Frequent travel to Southern Airports (LHR, LGW, STN) + sites in Oxford + London

Operations Director

Qualifications Required:



NEBOSH Level 3 Certificate Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety CertIOSH accreditation Minimum 5 years' experience in a regulated Health & Safety environment

Role Purpose



To lead, manage and continually improve Health & Safety standards across all Southern Airport operations and designated off-airport projects. The role ensures compliance with all legal requirements, client standards, airport regulations, and internal company procedures. The Health & Safety Manager acts as a key advisor to Maintenance and Project Managers, providing guidance on safe systems of work, documentation, and operational best practice.

Key Responsibilities:



Permit & Compliance Management



Support all business-critical permits, including key permits to ensure business continuity across the airports. Attend daily permit surgeries and weekly management meetings to maintain continuous compliance and operational readiness.

Policy & Procedure Governance



Lead the annual review of all company Health & Safety policies and procedures. Develop and implement new policies and procedures emerging from changes in business operations, legislation, and industry standards. Ensure documents remain legally compliant, up to date, and fully communicated across the organisation.

Risk Management & Documentation



Facilitate workshops with Maintenance/Project Managers to review, develop and improve RAMS, method statements, and supporting documents. Conduct RAMS and documentation workshops with clients and subcontractors to ensure alignment and compliance. Produce COSHH assessments and maintain accurate, up-to-date chemical safety documentation. Support the production and maintenance of safety documentation for off-airport projects. Maintain all documentation at Harwell and Science Museum, not limited to updates to CPP, RAMS and safety documentation.

Contractor & Accreditation Management



Oversee subcontractor onboarding including competency checks, safety documentation review, and performance monitoring. Manage the application, monitoring, renewal and submission process for all company H&S accreditations, including SafeContractor, ConstructionLine, FacilitiesLine, CHAS and SSIP Acclaim. Complete and submit PQQs and client compliance forms as required.

Operational Safety Leadership



Carry out site inspections across airports (LHR, LGW) and off-airport locations including Harwell and the Science Museum. Monitor and review company-wide site inspection activity and compile a monthly H&S performance report. Deliver monthly safety campaigns and communications across the company. Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, providing detailed reports, findings and corrective actions. Address and resolve safety concerns raised by engineers, managers, clients or external bodies.

Advisory & Continuous Improvement



Provide expert H&S advice to Maintenance and Project Managers, supporting the safe planning and execution of works. Drive continuous improvement in Health & Safety performance across all airport and off-airport operations. Prepare Toolbox Talks and guidance materials for Supervisors and team leaders to deliver.

Skills, Experience & Attributes



Minimum 5 years' experience in a highly regulated H&S environment, ideally within aviation, facilities, construction or engineering. Strong knowledge of UK H&S legislation, CDM regulations, airport safety and high-risk operational environments. Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence, challenge, and lead safety improvements. Competent in producing high-quality documentation and audits. Strong organisational and analytical skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities across various sites. Confident in engaging with clients, subcontractors and regulatory bodies.

Pay: Up to 55,000.00 per year
