Blackwater Academy is a small, nurturing Alternative Provision dedicated to supporting young people who have experienced challenges in mainstream education. The Role

We are seeking a passionate and creative Humanities Teacher to join our team. The successful candidate will plan and deliver engaging lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4 in subjects such as History, Geography, and Religious Studies, adapting teaching to meet the diverse needs of our learners.

You'll work closely with a dedicated pastoral and SEND team to foster a positive learning atmosphere that helps students re-engage with education and build confidence.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver high-quality, differentiated Humanities lessons to small groups of students. Create inclusive and creative schemes of work that reflect the needs and interests of learners. Support students with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs in achieving positive outcomes. Contribute to whole-school development, enrichment activities, and cross-curricular projects. Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and external agencies to support student progress.

Person Specification

Experience teaching Humanities subjects at KS3 and/or KS4. Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills. Empathy, patience, and commitment to inclusion and equity. Experience working in an Alternative Provision, PRU, or with SEMH students. Ability to teach across multiple Humanities subjects. A creative approach to curriculum design and delivery.
