As a Hydraulic Systems Engineer, you will be involved in the design & integration of equipment at the system and sub-system levels for a range of armoured vehicles operating in the land environment.
You will be involved in a wide range of Mechanical / Hydraulics Engineering tasks, from conceptual design to vehicle commissioning at customer sites.
This is a demanding role, requiring close liaison between, other Engineering teams, functions, subsystem suppliers and the customer and military user where required.
Significant drive and energy, strong engineering skills, and the ability to deliver a diverse range of tasks to demanding time, target cost and quality requirements are essential attributes to succeed.
The candidate must be a team player who is prepared to work with a multi-site engineering team within RBSL and the customer community.
Hydraulics:
The analysis of customer requirements and their subsequent decomposition into functional system and sub system design requirements.
Design and production of relatively complex hydraulic systems
Reviewing & updating existing hydraulic system designs
Producing calculations and supporting design documents such as FMEA
Working closely with electrical, software and mechanical design engineers to produce an integrated hydraulic system
Creating Bills of Materials for your designs and liaising with purchasing and production personnel
Being involved with assembly, commissioning and testing of hydraulic systems - this can involve off site working (occasionally overseas)
Liaison with Customer representatives, Classification Authorities and test facilities as necessary to discuss technical issues and problems.
Technical management of suppliers including generation of scope of work, technical specifications and schedule adherence
Generation of interface control specifications, drawings and space envelopes.
The generation of design and / or manufacturing drawings.
Validation of any systems / equipment, by the generation of test schedules, test and integration plans and the writing/investigation of test problem reports.
Engineering Design:
To lead and oversee the production of engineering solutions and technical data packs to satisfy the technical requirements of a contract:
Act as the Engineering lead, representing RBSL as Design Authority where appropriate.
Produce sub system specifications and designs, which simultaneously fulfil the contractual requirements and contribute to cost-effective design.
Schedule own work and that of subordinates (where applicable) to meet target timescales and budget demands, including the creation of low level schedules and task plans.
Conducting all activities in a professional manner and delivering mechanical design solutions to agreed time, cost and quality to meet project or business milestones
Have familiarity with PDM tools (Teamcenter) and the links to the ERP system (SAP).
Perform self-verification of own tasks and undertake cross-checking of peers' and subordinates' work to ensure completeness and quality of information.
Perform any related tasks for which their manager perceives that he/she has the necessary skills and/or competence.
Develop strong links with the applicable internal and external customers to underpin our commitment to customer satisfaction and to assist in identifying and maximising the potential of new business opportunities.
Application of Systems Engineering processes and internal Working Procedures to the satisfactory completion of programmes.
Writing Technical / Business proposals in support of achieving new or follow-on business.
WHAT QUALIFICATIONS YOU SHOULD HAVE
Qualifications and Experience You Should Have:
Degree level of education, or an equivalent level of competence with appropriate training and significant proven engineering experience
Practitioner in the discipline of hydraulic systems engineering and its integration with others, capable of managing and supporting a design solution through the full Engineering Lifecycle (Ideally including CETOP Level 3 Qualification in Mobile Hydraulic Systems)
Good interpersonal, verbal, written and presentation skills are essential, together with a sound working knowledge of engineering design.
Experience of at least one of the following would be highly desirable:
Achieved Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status or be working towards that objective
CAD PLM tools such as Teamcenter and knowledge of a SAP data management tool
Using 3D CAD tools, specifically Siemens NX or equivalent
Design and performance of heavy special to role/ combat engineering equipment
Design and performance analysis of military armoured land vehicles
Design and integration of military vehicle sub systems
Knowledge of MoD organisations and have experience of direct customer and supplier liaison.
