Job description

You will join the team responsible for the management of field telemetry equipment and hydrometric data collection, ensuring accurate and timely data and information is provided to customers of the Hydrometry & Telemetry Team (H&T).

Working across Lancashire on rainfall, river flow/level and groundwater monitoring sites, quality assuring and providing scientific data to internal and external customers. Some fieldwork is required, working in and near water in at sometimes remote locations that you will need to drive to.

You will be supported by and lead fieldwork G3s, to the best outcome for each site. Elements of asset management, public safety and delivery of national project upgrades are all current considerations of H&T delivery.
The team
We are a friendly, skilled, and motivated team. We provide high quality rainfall, surface water (river level and flow) and groundwater data to customers across our area, nationally and with external partners.



Primarily based in Lutra House office, Preston, we are integrated with H&T team in Cumbria to deliver a 'one team' vital service across CLA, that underpins much of the Environment Agency's statutory responsibilities relating to flood risk and water resource management.
Experience/skills required
Ideally you will have a scientific or engineering background and be experienced in designing, installing, and maintaining monitoring equipment.




You will possess:



Experience in managing large quantities of data. Good knowledge of telemetry systems and confidence using environmental monitoring equipment is essential Well-developed influencing and practical problem-solving skills Willingness to work outside often in demanding weather conditions, all year round Confidence working in and near water Confidence driving in all weather conditions and to remote locations


Some understanding of incident management is desirable.


The role will consist of a split of office, home based and field work.

There will be a requirement to participate in the IM (Incident Management) telemetry standby rota (AHO once trained) every 6 weeks; and telemetry helpdesk (weekly).
