Job Description

Purpose of the Role

The Hygiene Manager will lead and manage the hygiene function across TH Clements' fresh produce site, ensuring the highest standards of food safety, compliance, and operational hygiene. This role is responsible for overseeing a team of 16 hygiene operatives, maintaining audit readiness, and driving continuous improvement in hygiene processes across production, packing, and storage areas.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

- Manage, motivate, and develop a team of 16 hygiene staff, including planning rotas, performance management, and training.

- Provide clear direction to ensure all hygiene tasks are carried out safely, efficiently, and in line with site standards.

- Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Hygiene Operations

- Ensure all cleaning schedules (CICs), SOPs, and hygiene procedures are executed and documented accurately.

- Oversee deep cleans, environmental cleaning, and changeovers to minimise downtime and maintain site performance.

- Conduct regular hygiene audits and inspections, addressing non-conformances promptly.

- Work closely with production to ensure cleaning activities support operational priorities.

Compliance & Food Safety

- Ensure the site meets all hygiene-related standards for BRCGS, retailer audits, customer visits, and internal technical requirements.

- Maintain full audit readiness at all times, with up-to-date documentation and robust internal processes.

- Monitor cleaning chemicals, COSHH compliance, and safe working practices.

Continuous Improvement

- Review and improve hygiene processes, workflows, and equipment to increase efficiency and reduce waste.

- Analyse hygiene performance trends and implement sustainable action plans.

- Drive improvements in allergen control, micro performance, and sanitation verification activities (ATP, swabs, visual standards).

Resource & Budget Management

- Manage hygiene labour, chemical usage, and equipment to deliver within agreed budget.

- Identify and justify investment requirements where needed.

Skills & Experience Required

- Proven experience in hygiene management within food manufacturing, ideally in fresh produce or chilled environments.

- Strong leadership capability, able to manage and develop a large operational team.

- In-depth understanding of BRCGS, customer standards, food safety, and hygiene best practice.

- Excellent organisational and planning skills, with a hands-on approach.

- Knowledge of COSHH, chemical handling, and hygiene validation methods.

- Ability to work under pressure, prioritise effectively, and influence across departments.

This is a Night Shift position

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From 45,000.00 per year
