Cumberland Council is currently delivering a hosted ICT Service for Cumberland Council, Westmoreland and Furness Council and Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service. The provision of these services will be disaggregated at a future date.





The position of

Applications and Data Engineer

is a crucial role within the Digital & ICT Service area. This role offers the opportunity to work within a dynamic team at an exciting time, providing advanced technical support for several complex enterprise applications.






This position allows professionals to lead in a defined complex area to achieve operational objectives or provide expert advice in a supporting function.



The working environment is supportive, with minimal emotional demands and occasional physical requirements, such as traveling to county-wide locations and extended hours when necessary for business needs. The team places a high value on continuous learning and staying abreast of the latest technological advancements.




Key responsibilities




Provide subject matter expertise, technical guidance and technical leadership within a defined area. Assess new products, upgrades, and enhancements and develop plans for their implementation. Act as a "Technology Watch" within the team, keeping abreast of developments in related areas, disseminating this information and assisting with the formulation of forward plans for adoption where appropriate. Contribute to ICT service delivery by establishing business needs and proposing ICT solutions. Maintain existing applications in accordance with security policies and controls to ensure ongoing PSN compliance. Maintains comprehensive records and reporting to support asset and change management processes, as well as other ITIL disciplines. Analyse and repair software failures by interpreting diagnostics such as system logs, application logs, and fault codes to find root causes. Maintaining professional contact with all system stakeholders and suppliers.



Who we're looking for




Someone with strong technical knowledge and proven experience of supporting large enterprise applications. We are especially interested in candidates with advanced technical skills in Oracle/Linux and/or Microsoft Office365 applications. Technical and theoretical knowledge of the applications life cycle, including design, development, and support. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills. Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously. The ideal candidate should demonstrate flexibility, strong organisational skills, teamwork capabilities, consistently maintain a professional demeanour, and possess the ability to work independently while quickly acquiring new skills.




This role is available on a permanent basis.
