Job Description

As an Immigration Solicitor or Caseworker at Norman Lawson & Co Solicitors, you will be responsible for handling a varied caseload of immigration matters, including visa applications, asylum claims, appeals, and settlement applications. You will work closely with clients to provide expert legal advice and representation, ensuring that their cases are handled efficiently and with the highest level of care. Key Areas of Responsibility


o Manage a caseload of immigration matters, including family migration, work visas, asylum, human rights claims, appeals, and settlement applications.

o Provide clear and accurate legal advice to clients on all aspects of UK immigration law.

o Draft and submit applications to the Home Office and represent clients in immigration tribunals and court hearings when necessary.

o Maintain regular communication with clients, keeping them informed of case progress and advising on any legal developments affecting their case.

o Conduct legal research to ensure cases are prepared with up-to-date knowledge of immigration law and Home Office policies.

o Prepare witness statements, legal arguments, and supporting evidence for submissions and appeals.

o Liaise with advocates/barristers, court officials, and other legal professionals to progress cases efficiently.

o Engage in business development activities, such as attending networking events and contributing to the firm's growth within the immigration sector.

o Maintain accurate case files and ensure that all legal documents and applications are filed correctly and on time.

o Work closely with the partner to ensure consistent, high-quality service delivery across the team.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)


o Client Satisfaction: Demonstrate strong understanding of company's client service standards, consistently delivering it. Consistently achieving positive feedback from clients regarding case outcomes and service quality

o Case Management: Efficient management of a varied caseload, meeting deadlines and compliance requirements. Ensure that company policy in respect of Case management is being followed at all times.

o Legal Accuracy: Ensuring all applications, submissions, and advice are precise and up to date with current immigration law.

o Financial Targets: Meeting or exceeding billing targets within a supportive and structured working environment. A 4 to 5 billable hours per day is expected.

o Professional Development: Active participation in training and continuous improvement within the immigration law field.

Required Skills, Knowledge & Experience


o Qualified solicitor in Scotland (for Solicitor role) or accredited immigration caseworker under OISC Level 1, 2, or 3 (for Caseworker role).

o 2+ years of experience in handling immigration cases, including family visas, work visas, asylum, and human rights claims.

o Strong knowledge of UK immigration law and Home Office policies.

o Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate approach to client care.

o Strong drafting and legal research skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.

o Ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously and work to deadlines.

o Proactive and solution-focused with a desire to continuously improve.

o Experience working with diverse clients from various backgrounds.
