Role Overview:
We are seeking an experienced
Industrial Gearbox Fitter
to join our team. The successful candidate will be based primarily on-site in Huddersfield and will be responsible for the inspection, disassembly, rebuild, and testing of a wide variety of industrial gearboxes ranging from 50kg to 10 tonnes. Some travel may be required for site surveys or occasional on-site work (less than 10%).
This role requires someone with proven experience who can hit the ground running with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
Strip down, inspect, assess and rebuild various types of industrial gearboxes (helical, bevel, worm, planetary, etc.)
Diagnose faults and identify worn/damaged components
Interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
Use appropriate measuring tools (micrometers, verniers, DTI gauges)
Ensure all rebuilds meet internal and customer quality standards
Operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and other workshop equipment safely
Maintain a clean and safe working environment
Complete relevant documentation and service reports
Assist occasionally with on-site inspections or servicing when required
Essential Skills & Experience:
Proven experience working with industrial gearboxes in a workshop or field environment
Ability to strip, assess and rebuild gearboxes independently
Strong mechanical fitting background
Competence in using precision measuring instruments
Understanding of health and safety practices
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
Physically fit and comfortable working with large/heavy equipment
Full UK driving licence (preferred due to occasional travel)
Desirable:
Overhead crane or forklift licence (training can be provided if required)
Experience with dynamic balancing or gearbox testing equipment
