The Infection Control Lead is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring the dental clinic's infection prevention and control program. This role ensures the clinic meets all regulatory requirements, maintains a safe environment for patients and staff, conducts training, and oversees compliance with sterilization, disinfection, and disease prevention standards.
Key Responsibilities1. Infection Control Program Management
Develop and maintain the clinic's Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) policies and procedures.
Ensure compliance with national, regional, and local infection control regulations and dental practice standards.
Update clinic protocols based on new guidelines or emerging infectious risks.
2. Sterilization & Disinfection Oversight
Supervise and audit sterilization procedures, instrument reprocessing, and operatory disinfection.
Maintain logs for autoclave testing, equipment maintenance, and sterilization records.
Ensure proper storage, handling, and tracking of sterile instruments.
3. Staff Training & Competency
Provide onboarding and ongoing IPC training for clinical and non?clinical staff.
Conduct annual competency assessments on PPE use, sterilization, and hygiene protocols.
Lead infection control drills and updates (e.g., bloodborne pathogens, exposure response).
4. Compliance Monitoring & Auditing
Perform regular internal audits of clinical areas for IPC compliance.
Identify gaps and recommend corrective actions.
Maintain documentation for inspections, accreditation, and quality assurance programs.
5. Environmental Safety & Risk Management
Oversee waste management, waterline maintenance, and environmental cleaning procedures.
Ensure proper functioning of ventilation and safety equipment.
Manage exposure incidents, post-exposure protocols, and follow-up documentation.
6. Communication & Reporting
Serve as the primary contact for infection control inquiries, inspections, and regulatory reviews.
Report infection-related incidents and trends to management.
Communicate updates on infectious diseases and new guidelines to staff.
QualificationsRequired
Licensed dental professional (RDH, RDA, RN, or equivalent) OR relevant healthcare background.
Formal training or certification in Infection Prevention & Control
Knowledge of sterilization procedures and dental clinic infection control standards.
Preferred
Experience in dental practice operations.
Certification in Dental Infection Control.
Strong organizational, auditing, and communication skills.
