Job summary




As an important part of the Ministry of Defence, Defence Intelligence (DI) provides intelligence analysis, specialist outputs and advice that supports decision making across government. RAF Wyton is an important site within the Defence Intelligence estate.


We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to join and lead our hard-working Information and Communications Technology Systems Team. As the team leader for a team of 7, you are responsible for managing the support to the technical services, managing a budget and overseeing incident response during normal working hours and out of normal working hours.


This role is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job description



Main Responsibilities:



Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Manage engineering support to station information and communications technology. Provide a focal point as engineering specialist to all Business User areas to ensure needs are accurately captured and communicated. Manage non-networked IT. Ensure that all day-to-day activities in support of non-networked IT are resourced adequately and that plans are in place to monitor condition of existing facilities. Review all requests for new facilities to ensure valid, solutions are acceptable and affordable. Manage the Station IT budget, ensuring appropriate resources are requested and managed. Ensure that that budgetary tools (such as the forecast of outturn) are used to highlight and plan for future expenditure. Provide communications security (COMSEC) account management support. Manage Telecoms provision. Attend to emerging engineering issues to ensure route cause identification and analysis. Manage a knowledge base for Station ICT support ensuring the team are a continuously learning organisation. Provide out of normal working hours support for COMSEC and ICT incident management.

This role has direct line management responsibility for 5 positions and 2 countersigning roles.

Person specification




We are seeking an individual, with strong attention to detail, decision making and interpersonal skills, with the ability to clearly and concisely communicate both orally and in writing, with the confidence to champion change and table new ideas and creative solutions.


Although the job is routine based, due to legislation and policy, you will need to be flexible, with a proactive approach to daily tasks and able to prioritise effectively. Understanding of information systems and their management is an essential attribute for all applicants.


Due to the nature of the role, there will be a requirement for on-call working for which you will be able to claim an on-call allowance.


Unfortunately, this post does not offer the flexibility of hybrid working. The successful candidate will be located at RAF Wyton.

Essential criteria:



Prioritisation and decision-making skills. Willing to attend relevant training courses. Completion of COMSEC Custodian Functional Course CN2090 is required within the first 6 months in post (typically a 1-week long, in-person residential course based within the UK). Good understanding of information communications technology systems, their dependencies and their management. Line management experience.
