To support and assist in delivering library and information services to the firm's legal teams and business management departments. A key part of this role is the provision of a range of bulletins, alerts and updates to the legal teams to support their work and to keep them up to date with legal and sector developments. You will use media monitoring tools and legal databases to do this.
Finding and providing current and historical legal, corporate, images, statistical and other information using newspaper archives, government sites, legal databases, external libraries such as the Law Society library and British Library is a key part of this role. You will be involved in the analysis of AI tools and new legal content coming to market. You will assist with library housekeeping tasks such as cataloguing. You will use project management tools such as Monday to organise and manage research requests.
Main duties and responsibilities
Information services
Typical tasks will include but not be limited to:
Assisting with the management of research and enquiries - providing support, responding to enquiries and supplying specific research as required.
Assisting with enquiries that relate to hard copy books, journals and the use of online resources.
Assisting with cataloguing tasks using SLLS.
Assisting with the management of journal and database subscriptions.
Attending demonstrations of new and existing online products.
Assisting with delivering training and inductions for lawyers, trainees, and other new joiners.
Assisting with current awareness activity, including the flagging of legal and regulatory change in regular library bulletins.
Assisting in building awareness and engagement within the firm for the knowledge and information function, including taking responsibility for the design of a firm-wide user-survey.
Other Responsibilities
Any other tasks that might from time to time be required.
Develop relationships with key internal stakeholders and help with the design of a feedback questionnaire.
Essential Experience
Genuine interest to work with a leading claimant law firm and passionate about providing access to justice to all.
Proven ability to communicate accurately, clearly, and concisely, in writing and verbally. The role will require stakeholder facing responsibility, training and occasional presentations.
Highly developed organisational skills and a process driven approach to tasks are essential in this role.
A strong level of IT proficiency, and in particular the ability to quickly learn new systems and processes. Experience in working with MS Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook), and HTML.
Strong research skills and experience with databases such as LexisNexis, WestLaw etc, but training will be provided where necessary.
Proven ability in demonstrating patience, resilience and flexibility whilst managing daily tasks and stakeholder relationships.
Expanding knowledge through membership of organisations such as the British Association of Law Librarians, and attendance at seminars, library tours and product demonstrations.
Desirable Experience
A degree or post-graduate qualification in information and library management. The role would suit someone with a recent library qualification.
Relevant experience of working in a legal sector within a partnership environment.
