We are currently looking to recruit an IT Systems Infrastructure Engineer to help develop, maintain, support and secure the infrastructure services and processes for Gardners internal IT in the UK and managed IT services for other subsidiaries of The Little Group (TLG) globally. We are looking for enthusiastic new members of staff to work with and enhance the current team as we continue to develop and improve the business.
Gardners Books Limited, as part of The Little Group, is the leading physical & digital book wholesalers globally. Gardners supply product from its warehouses in Eastbourne and Bicester to retailers in the UK on a next day delivery and international retailers via shippers from a stock of over 640,000 different titles. The IT Systems Department comprises around 12 staff. The main role of the department is the support and development of the company's internal infrastructure.
The company operates a multi-server network using VMWare & Microsoft operating systems with over 500 PC workstations. There are also automated conveyor systems, IP telephone system, ethernet networks, wireless networks, and various other electronic/mechanical systems.
Key Responsibilities
The support and development of internal computer and other technical systems including, but not limited to:
Management of Microsoft Windows desktop operating systems utilising:
Active Directory and Group Policy
SCCM & PowerShell scripting
Management of Windows servers and VMWare environments.
Supporting Microsoft IIS, SCCM, Exchange servers and M365.
Writing documentation.
Wired & wireless network management utilising routers and firewalls.
Support the roll-out of new bespoke applications.
Test and evaluate new technology.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
You may, on occasion, be required to visit and support other companies within The Little Group
Training
Training will be arranged for specific areas of technical specialisation, where this is required. However, it is expected that the majority of new knowledge will be self-learnt from documentation and a keen self-interest in new developments in the fast-changing computer profession. Time will be made available during working hours to support continuous professional development.
Job Conditions
Hours are 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday on-site in our Eastbourne facility. Some flexibility on hours is required during busy periods. It will be required to work occasional Saturday nights to assist with performing essential systems maintenance, for which lieu time is normally given. You may also be requested to join the Out-of-Hours support team, supporting Gardners' systems 1 week in 4, for which a contract addendum is made.
Twenty days paid holiday. Overtime is paid. There is a 9 month probationary period with appraisals every three months. Thereafter there is an annual appraisal in April.

Essential Technical Experience
Microsoft operating systems, up to and including Windows 11 & server operating systems.
Ethernet Networking including Layer 2/3 Switches, VLAN's, NIC's, Wireless Networking (802.11b/g/n) and Infrastructure Cabling.
Minimum 3 years I.T. Support experience, including working on a helpdesk.
Working knowledge of Microsoft SCCM, IIS, and Exchange.
VMWare Virtualisation technologies.
PowerShell scripting.
Additional Technical Knowledge Preferred
Linux configuration and operation.
