Young People Relate seeks to engage, motivate and assist young people to reach their full potential through positive engagement, consistent support and positive redirection when at a cross road in their journey in life. We provide 24 hour key working and mentoring support in order to positively re-engage young people with services i.e School, Social Services, Youth Offending Team, Foster Placement and Community.

The work of an in-house keyworker has a direct impact on improving the life and opportunities of vulnerable young people within the local community. By providing a person-centred approach in your engagement, the aim is to tackle prevention of youth crime, increasing education attendance and engagement within educational settings, promotion of community safety and supporting young people with home life harmony. This work entails working with young people, carers and various stakeholders, such as social services, schools, colleges, healthcare professionals and working towards improving the outcomes for the young people engaging with YPR's services in our 24hour semi-independent residential placement.

PURPOSE OF ROLE:



To provide high quality, outcome driven support services for young people with a range of varying needs requiring support within a residential placement.

To provide re-engagement with education & support positive home life interactions to improve the life skills for children and young people supported by YPR.

To promote equality and diversity within the team and for children, young people and their care team.

To inspire and motivate young people to reach their potential.

To promote the welfare, capacity for change, safeguarding and social inclusion of children and young people.

To maintain accurate records of all interactions with our young people and to record all relevant information pertaining to our young people.

To support the 'circle of support' and gain a better understanding of behaviours.

To achieve outcomes that enhance the social skills of children & young people within YPR's service.

Summary of Duties:



To ensure an appropriate handover is completed at the start of each shift.

Any problems that may have arisen during the previous shift relating to the young people or the property.

Documenting all safeguarding concerns, planned activities, incident/accidents, meetings planned for the day.

Daily report writing

Carry out domestic chores and encourage the young person to clean their personal space/bedroom and communal areas.

Staff are to encourage the young people to assist, prepare and cook their daily meals.

To support the young person to achieve and develop adequate social and life skills while staying at their placement and preparing them to return home or to go into independent living.

To log relevant information on the young person in line with Young People Relate policies and procedures.

To liaise with the relevant engagement key worker, Unit Lead & Placement Manager involved with the care of the young person. ?

To communicate effectively with professional agencies regarding the young person.

To ensure all house rules and policies are adhered too, including specific duties.

To support and assist the young people within the placement in a professional, friendly manner and to be aware of their movements while in the house.

To attend all necessary house meetings. ?

To attend training as and when required. ?

To support the young people and young adults according to the Care Act 2014

To help and support the young people maintain the cleanliness of the house and manage their responsibilities. ?

ROLE REQUIREMENTS



Successful candidates will be required to participate in staff training and development programmes.



A condition of the role is that all staff members must complete all CPD Accredited (Personal Development) courses they are enrolled on to within the necessary timeframe set by their line manager. All CPD courses will be paid for by the employer.



The role subject to a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure (DBS).



This position is offered as zero hours contract however the minimum hours available is 12 hours per week.



PERSON SPECIFICATIONS



QUALIFICATIONS



GCSE level English, written and oral. Level 2 Health & Social care or equivalent. Relevant professional qualification in personal coaching, emotional/behaviour development.

KNOWLEDGE



An understanding of the pressures facing young people today, particularly social inclusion, learning disability, complex needs An understanding of the impacts of safeguarding issues, child protection, domestic abuse and sexual violence (essential) An understanding of the impact of local authority funding An understanding of working within safeguarding policies and procedures, with clear appropriate professional boundaries

EXPERIENCE



Experience of working with young people with Autism/Special Needs. Experience of outreach/lone working. Experience of working within statutory system in relation to court/youth justice. Understanding, commitment, and experience in the application of Equal Opportunities considerations. Experience supporting young people into education and/or other services. Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, patience, and resilience

SKILLS



Ability to work as part of a team. Strong ICT skills and experience of windows-based computer packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Ability to manage challenging behaviour & introducing & holding boundaries with service users. Good organisational skills with ability to prioritise workload and respond flexibly. Ability to work outside usual office hours, including evenings and weekends. Ability to directly work without close supervision with service users whose behaviour can be challenging or antisocial. Excellent verbal and written communication skills demonstrated in a variety of settings. Ability to self-motivate and competent to function independently on a day-to-day basis making appropriate decisions. Full clean Driving Licence (3yrs+)
