Job Description

The Innovation Manager plays a key role within the business, developing new products that will reinforce and strengthen the PPT Group Brands and satisfy Global Customer requirements. The Innovation Manager is accountable for providing hands on leadership and strategic direction to multidisciplinary teams spanning the skills sets of: Mechanical. Electrical, Electronic, Software, Firmware Design and Engineering Project Management. The Innovation Manager role combines technical depth, strong people leadership, and a broad understanding of product development and delivery -- from concept through to market launch. You'll foster a culture of continuous improvement, creativity, and collaboration, ensuring engineering and leadership excellence across sites.

The purpose of the role is to deliver both new products (NPD) and enhancements to existing product lines (EPD), advance manufacturing automation and ensure the products are innovative. Success is defined by leading a high performing team to deliver new products that are market leading, on brand, to specification and projects that are delivered on budget, on time and in full.

PPT UK Multidisciplinary Engineering Design Team

Key accountabilities



Leadership & Team Development:

Lead, mentor, and develop large, cross-functional engineering teams, ensuring collaboration between specialists in software, firmware, electrical, electronic, and mechanical disciplines.

Product Development Expertise:

Be accountable for the full product development lifecycle across all engineering disciplines, appreciating the differences between roles such as electrical, electronic, software, firmware, mechanical, and product design.

Product Delivery:

Oversee

the full product delivery process -- from research and concept through design, development, and production to marketing and customer delivery -- ensuring effective collaboration across departments.

Design & Integration:

Direct

design, prototyping, validation, and system integration activities to achieve seamless, high-quality engineering outcomes.

Innovation & Automation:

Drive and deliver

initiatives to enhance manufacturing capability, efficiency, and product competitiveness through innovation and automation.

Compliance & Safety:

Ensure

awareness and management of safety risks associated with machinery and maintain compliance with relevant industrial and product standards (e.g., ISO 13849, IEC 62061).

Project Management:

Manage

the engineering project portfolio, balancing resources, mitigating risks, and aligning delivery with business priorities.

Cross-Site Collaboration:

Work with colleagues to align standards, share best practices, and deliver unified product platforms across PPT Group.

Continuous Improvement:

Promote knowledge sharing, technical excellence, and process optimisation, incorporating valuable legacy features where appropriate.

Communication:

Present progress, risks, and opportunities clearly to senior management and non-technical stakeholders.

Employment & Educational Background



The ideal candidate will ideally have an equipment manufacturing background. Educated to HND level as a minimum in an engineering subject An understanding of the textile testing is desirable. A recognised management qualification would be an advantage. A business-related qualification would also be an advantage. Experience in managing a multifunctional engineering team is essential. Competent at managing multiple projects simultaneously.
