Purpose of the Role
The Insurance Technician will support the underwriting team by delivering high-quality technical administration, documentation, and data processing.
The role ensures that policies (including invoices), endorsements, bordereaux, and claims data are accurate, compliant, and processed within agreed service levels--allowing underwriters to focus on pricing, placement, and client outcomes.
Within Group Life & Disability, this position plays a central role in scheme onboarding, census validation, premium processing, renewals, and mid-term adjustments across UK, EU, and international portfolios.
Key Responsibilities
Quote & Policy Administration
Manage quote allocation to the underwriting team
Prepare and issue policy documentation, endorsements, and renewals
Send quotes, BRC documentation, and policies to BDMs/Brokers
Process annual renewals and mid-term adjustments
Data Management & Quality Assurance
Maintain accurate policy and claims records
Validate census data and bordereaux
Ensure high levels of documentation accuracy and compliance
Premiums, Billing & Reconciliation
Process premium calculations and allocations
Manage debtor administration and payment follow-ups
Reconcile bordereaux and resolve discrepancies
Ensure invoices are issued in line with agreed timelines
Claims & Finance Administration (UK Group Life Specific)
Update claims systems and upload required documentation
Support commission statement queries and investigations
Liaise with finance where necessary
Underwriting Support
Conduct KYC checks and escalate where required
Manage shared inboxes and allocate queries appropriately
Produce and issue BDX reports in collaboration with underwriters
Governance & Compliance
Ensure adherence to internal policies and regulatory standards
Maintain accurate audit trails
Support data protection and GDPR compliance processes

Positive internal and broker feedback
Experience & Qualifications
Essential:
Experience in insurance operations or technical administration within an insurer, MGA, or broker (Group Risk or related lines preferred)
Strong working knowledge of policy administration systems
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, Pivot Tables)
Strong numeracy and proven accuracy in data processing
Good understanding of the insurance policy lifecycle (quote-bind-issue-endorse-renew-cancel)
Desirable:
Group Life & Disability experience
Exposure to Lloyd's / London Market processes
Progress toward CII qualifications
Experience handling sensitive health data under GDPR
