Join the regional critical care transfer service (Retrieve) through a separate application (approx. 1.5 PAs) and expand your expertise.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

Deliver high-quality, patient-centred care across the full range of critical care services as outlined in your job plan.
Supervise and support doctors and ACCPs in training, including teaching sessions, assessments, and appraisals.
Support medical students from Bristol and Peninsula and contribute to the development of non- consultant staff.
Participate in research and quality improvement projects and contribute to monthly Governance and Mortality & Morbidity meetings.
Maintain clinical competence and comply with professional supervision requirements.
Engage in clinical trials and research projects within the Critical Care department. Established research team in the department and trust wide
Complete annual appraisal, GMC revalidation, job planning, and mandatory training. Agree a prospective job plan within three months of starting. Maintain CME standards.
Provide prospective and short-notice cover for Critical Care duties to ensure 24/7 service. Work collaboratively with colleagues across Somerset NHS Foundation Trust to deliver high standards of care.

Essential
Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
MBChB or equivalent basic medical qualifications
Currently on UK Specialist Register for Intensive Care Medicine OR satisfactory progression of training with CCT due within 6 months
FFICM or equivalent
If applying for 2nd Speciality: appropriate joint CCT or CESR and relevant Diploma (MRCP, FRCA, MRCEM etc.)
The right to reside and work in the UK

Minimum 4 years' experience in critical care (at least 2 years in general critical care; 4 years in second speciality if applicable)
Competence per Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine standards: assessing patients, provision and withdrawal of life-sustaining support
Competence to work independently and make decisions Clear, logical thinking with analytical/scientific approach Understanding of clinical risk management
Ability to prioritise clinical need
Experience managing critically ill children for stabilisation/transfer
