Job Description

On behalf of UKRI, we are looking for an Interaction Designer (Inside IR35) for a 6 month contract based Remote (Occasional travel to Swindon Office).



You'll work on user centred design activities with a user researcher and content designer.



The initial focus is on digital transformation projects, however the demand for interaction designer is growing across UKRI as the benefits of UCD is gradually becoming more widely understood.



You'll be working in a multidisciplinary agile team, where you'll be leading on the planning and delivery of interaction design activities for the team. You'll have a lot of autonomy and support from the team, as well as the UCD Lead. The team uses Confluence, Jira, Slack and Miro to collaborate with teams. Design Operations is maturing, and we use Figma extensively.



As an Interaction Designer, your main responsibilities will be to:

Advocate appropriate strategies for research, test and design to enable ongoing service improvements. Prototype user journeys using Figma and low-fidelity methods. Manage and mentor designers from across UKRI to promote quality, best practice and continuous improvement. Drive the User experience process and its implementation across UKRI services. Generate feedback and insight to build a clear picture of the service users and deliver solutions that meet their needs. Support product owners by translating user insights into features and actions to iteratively improve services. Contribute to UKRI's design system and the wider GDS community, helping to shape best practice across teams and government services. Collaborate with supplier and contract team members to align UX activities with wider service plans.

Essential:



Experience prototyping in Figma. Experience delivering Discovery, Alpha and Beta phases in multi-stakeholder environments. Experience iterating live digital services. Experience working across pre-development and development phases in multidisciplinary teams to ensure user feedback is iterated into the service. Experience producing strong UX outputs - personas, user journeys, user flows, wireframes, mock-ups, designs and prototypes. Agile collaboration: balancing user needs, business goals and technical constraints. Usability and accessibility testing, including with Assisted Digital Needs groups. Experience working with suppliers, contract team members and ability to work within constraints and assess risk implications.

Desirable:



Experience of UK GDS service design patterns and standards.
