We have an opportunity for a Firmware Engineer to join us at Honeywell, in Leicester, where you will be part of the wider Honeywell Fire R&D community that designs, implements and delivers on time groundbreaking fire detection and safety products. The role gives you the opportunity to build upon your technical knowledge and personal skills though supporting our engineering teams in developing electro-mechanical design solutions and learning about the commercial fire detection systems.



This role is part of our University Relations program, designed to help students and recent graduates launch their careers with hands-on experience, mentorship, and opportunities for growth within Honeywell. This internship is set up for 12 months to cover a sandwich placement starting in Summer 2026, or for a graduate from 2025 or 2026, with the possibility of a permanent role after the placement.

Key responsibilities:



You will work closely with experienced professionals, as well as an assigned buddy, to gain hands-on experience within a friendly and supportive team to be trained to achieve the following:


Product support through firmware development, test & maintenance following the best practices and design principles Developing and applying your academic skills to undertake various activities across the engineering lifecycle, delivering to agreed performance targets, including cost and schedule Developing practical skills in engineering design, development and testing for complex systems, understanding key processes and technologies Gaining an understanding of the commercial fire domains, including the strict regulation to support the development of relevant products and technologies Taking an active role in engineering process improvement, ensuring the communication of best practice across the systems engineering team Product development support through integration testing and automation of key test scenarios

Key skills and qualifications:



Studying or recently graduated with a degree in computer science, software design or engineering, or electronics & communication, (either a 2028 grad requiring a 12-month industrial placement or a graduate in 2025 or 2026) Has a passion for embedded software development and looking for real product engineering exposure Provable knowledge and passion for object orientated principles, (this could be from your degree, work experience, or a hobby) Experience of working in C++ (this could be from your degree, work, or a hobby) The ability to commute to our Leicester office for this internship Business level English communication skills, both written and spoken
