About the apprenticeship:
The apprenticeship will involve joining the internal audit team at AWE for a period of 6 - 12 months. The internal audit role involves delivering internal audits/ third line assurance to the AWE CEO and Audit Committee.
Internal audits will be conducted following an audit methodology and using an audit management system which has been developed by the Government Internal Audit Agency to align with Global Internal Audit Standards (GIAS). The team are based on the Aldermaston site and is a mix of office based /site and home working. The Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors supports a number of apprenticeship levels.
Opportunities when you complete your apprenticeship:
A placement in internal audit should prepare the individual with a good understanding of Governance, Internal Control and Risk Management. It also provides good coverage across the whole organisation and an understanding of its Strategic Risks applicable to many future roles within AWE.

Entry Requirements:5 GCSE Grade 4/C or above including Maths and English 2 A levels Grade C or above or equivalent Level 3 qualifications. Annual leave will not be granted from 1st September until 2nd October 2026 due to mandatory inductions you are required to complete as part of your apprenticeship. Any leave approved after this point will depend on the training provider requirements for your apprenticeship and must be agreed in advance.

18 months plus 2 months End Point Assessment

Recruitment Process

Online test: If successful, you will be invited to complete our online assessment stage. These include online testing against numerical, verbal, logical and cognitive reasoning tests. Don't be intimidated: practice assessments will be available so you will be fully equipped with the knowledge of what to expect.

Virtual assessment: Those successful at testing will be invited to a virtual assessment centre. The Assessment Centres are scheduled for 27th January 2026 and 3rd February 2026. Please note that these dates may be subject to change, but rest assured, we'll keep all applicants informed throughout the process.
These roles are governed by Health and Safety at Work Regulations and require all candidates to have an Occupational Health pre-employment medical held at AWE which follows the initial selection process. All candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role and be willing and able to work in designated areas.
