You'll be part of the Legal team, supporting the Head of Internal Controls to keep Currys compliant and confident. We make sure the business has strong controls in place that cover the risks that matter most, meeting the standards set out in Provision 29 of the UK Corporate Governance Code. We're a practical, collaborative team that values getting things done and helping the business succeed through smart risk management.
You'll work with colleagues right across Currys and Elkjop (Currys Nordic Business), from control owners in individual teams to senior leaders. You'll help them understand risks and strengthen their control management, improving processes so the business delivers effectively and stays compliant. Partnering with functions like, IT Risk and Controls and Internal Audit, you'll make sure we're working efficiently together on the risks that matter most.
Role overview:

As part of this role, you'll be responsible for:
Help design, implement, and maintain a right-sized control framework that keeps Currys compliant with legislation and regulations, including the UK Corporate Governance Code.
Design and test controls throughout the year, checking they're working effectively across financial, operational, and compliance areas.
Create clear remediation plans when controls aren't working and track progress until issues are resolved.
Be the go-to person for control owners across the UK, Ireland, and Nordics when they need support or have questions.
Help roll out a network of control champions across the business.
Help prepare updates and presentations for senior leadership, the Audit Committee, and ExCo.
Spot opportunities to improve processes and controls, including using technology like AI and automation to work smarter.
You will need:
Minimum 6 years' experience in internal controls, risk, internal audit, or external audit.
Professional qualification in Internal Audit, Accounting, or Risk Management such as ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or IRM with 3+ years post-qualification experience.
Hands-on experience either running controls or assessing them in areas like finance, IT, financial services, operations, or ESG.
Knowledge of control frameworks like COSO and hands-on experience testing how well controls actually work.
A talent for influencing people at all levels and explaining complex controls in practical, straightforward ways.
Commercial thinking combined with a get-it-done attitude that focuses on real-world solutions.
Sharp analytical skills and an eye for detail that spots risks before they become problems.
Confidence building trusted relationships across different teams, countries, and levels of seniority.
The ability to stay resilient under pressure and work independently when the situation calls for it.
