Due to the continued success and expansion of our business, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Internal Sales Assistant/Yard Operator to join our team in Watchet.

The Role

We are seeking a motivated and customer-focused Internal Sales / Yard Operative to join our busy builders merchant team. This dual-role position combines customer service and sales support within the branch, as well as hands-on yard duties including loading, unloading, and organising building materials. Ideal for someone with strong communication skills, a can-do attitude, and knowledge of building materials or the construction industry.

The Requirements

Internal Sales (Office-based):

+ Handle customer enquiries via phone, email, and in person
+ Process sales orders, quotations, and returns accurately
+ Advise customers on product availability, pricing, and technical information
+ Build relationships with trade customers and suppliers
+ Upsell products and suggest alternatives where applicable
+ Maintain accurate records of transactions and customer interactions
+ Liaise with the yard team to ensure orders are fulfilled promptly####

Yard Duties (Outdoor-based):

+ Load and unload customer and supplier vehicles safely
+ Pick and prepare customer orders efficiently and accurately
+ Maintain a clean, safe, and organised yard environment
+ Carry out regular stock checks and assist with inventory control
+ Operate forklifts and other machinery safely (training provided if needed)
+ Follow all health and safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE

Skills & Experience:

Previous experience in a builders merchant, construction supply, or similar environment preferred Strong customer service and sales skills Good product knowledge of building materials an advantage Ability to work well in a team and under pressure Physically fit and able to handle manual work in all weather conditions Forklift license desirable but not essential (training can be provided)

The Hours

Week 1: Monday to Friday 07:30 to 17:00


Week 2: Monday to Friday 07:30 to 17:00 & Saturday 08:00 to 12:00
