The A Side: A Day in The Life
In October 2024, Universal Music UK brought together two iconic music labels, Island and EMI Records, to create Island EMI Label Group. The new powerhouse label group is designed to help deliver our strategy to support artists from the wider Universal family, linking closely with US label partners including REPUBLIC Collective, and Interscope Capitol Labels Group.
Blending these labels brings Island's unique ethos of launching pioneering and influential global artists such as Amy Winehouse, Bob Marley, U2, Hozier and Lola Young, with EMI's illustrious history and roster of diverse acts from the UK, including Sir Elton John, Queen and Take That.
The label group is also home to a star-studded US and international roster which includes artists such as Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, Ariana Grande, Chappell Roan and Noah Kahan.
The B Side: Skills & Experience
Be Creative
Lead the creation and execution of UK marketing campaigns for a varied roster of international acts
Oversee and manage the marketing budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources and maximising return on investment (ROI)
Rep Owner and Management Relations: Work closely with the US /International rep owners based in various time zones globally, noting calls and meetings with them may run into the evening in the UK. Be the main point of contact for them in the UK
Plan multi-platform advertising campaigns, to effectively utilise budgets and key performance indicators
Devise effective and innovative content lead digital campaigns. Working in conjunction with the digital marketing team across all channels for effective and progressive audience development and conversion
Thinking creatively outside the realms of the day to day for opportunities and moment lead marketing, especially, and more often than not, in the absence of any international acts being in market
Lead on taking ideas from inception to execution, managing deliverables on time and within budget
Be Strategic
Project manage all elements of the campaign to create bespoke and nimble
strategies across each artist/project - ensuring the UK Marketing campaign is ambitious and aligned with the rep owners' vision and expectations for the project
Responsible for individual artist budgets in line with the agreed forecasts
Analyse and understand pre-order stats, streaming data, sales figures, and campaign performance in real time to optimise the wider marketing plans and how this impacts budget allocation
Bring together wider teams to create opportunities to brainstorm, discuss and map out plans, creating robust campaigns and nurturing superfans
Ensure all information is accurately communicated in good time to all appropriate departments regarding release plans, changes, developments, growth
Be prepared to adapt job, role and requirements to best support the evolving needs and demands of the department / roster
Be Analytical
Apply critical thinking to each stage of a campaign - is this working to meet our objectives? Is this connecting with our target audience? What is the data telling us and how does this help to inform our next move?
Utilise reporting systems, UMG software tools and data points to regularly assess performance
Stay current on emerging music trends, popular culture and zeitgeist moments. Stay informed on competitor campaigns and market developments
Always be on hand to walk rep owner and management through results and offer solutions to any issues that occur along the way
Be Collaborative
Act as the primary point of contact and develop strong relationships with all internal and external stakeholders across an artist project including the Island EMI Records team, rep owner, artist managers, central UMG departments and freelance consultants
Help create a collaborative, team-oriented environment, engaging proactively with colleagues across different departments to achieve shared goals
Person Specification
Passion for music across a broad range of genres. The ideal candidate will also have an interest / understanding of modern Country music and its growing popularity in the UK
Proven experience of project managing artist marketing campaigns
Proven authoritative knowledge of charts, trends, and artists
A broad network of contacts
Be a creative and critical thinker. Take ideas from ideation to fruition
A keen eye for engaging short form content and digital campaign moments with a proven track record of building the week-by-week content strategy alongside audience team members
Have strong knowledge of the streaming space and playlisting, fundamentally on Spotify and Apple Music, Amazon & YouTube services
Experience of working with acts of various sizes and budget
Experience of effectively managing budgets on own projects and maximising profits
Excellent relationship-building and relationship-management skills with the ability to deal with difficult situations with tact and diplomacy
Strong communication skills, written and verbal, and outstanding presentational
