This is an exciting opportunity to join the Met Office on a 12-month Year in Industry placement, commencing at the start of July 2026, developing your skills and knowledge and ensuring you gain the most value possible from your experience with us.


You will have the opportunity to network with our cohort of Industrial Placements all over the Met Office and understand what career opportunities are on offer at the Met Office after you graduate.

As our International Product Management Industrial Placement 2026, the job may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in the office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and the location advertised will be your contractual place of work. As an Industrial Placement, we would expect you to attend the office once a week as a minimum.

Our Industrial Placement scheme offers ambitious and capable undergraduates the opportunity to gain valuable experience working alongside diverse and highly skilled experts in their field. You'll be working on projects that really matter and will make a difference.

You would be working alongside our Product Managers and business teams to help develop new/manage the lifecycle of existing products and services. This includes a wide variety of offerings, from tools and data for use by Meteorologists in other National Met Services to training, seminars, workshops and consultancy to help advance their skills and capabilities. All with the aim to forward the Met Offices International engagement vision - to work in partnership to support governments, communities and households to sustainably build resilience to impactful weather in our changing climate.

Your key duties



Develop a basic understanding of, and contribute to, the domain knowledge of the products and services within the International business area. Develop a working knowledge of the Met Offices International users. Understand not only their needs and how these may differ to UK based customers, but also a basic understanding of how they use our products and services and what they aim to achieve. Investigate the benefits and value of our products for end users. Develop a basic knowledge of the wider teams providing Met Office products and services, and contribute to identifying areas for collaboration. Be able to describe what a Product vision and roadmap is and how they are used. Explore the types of risks and dependencies that might affect our products and services, and identify ways these might be mitigated. Support the Product Manager when required, standing in for them when requested. Show a basic awareness of Agile principles. Show good levels of collaboration, trust and innovation. Contribute towards building a high performing team. Work closely with the Product Manager and Senior Product Manager, Stakeholders and Business managers. Understand the approach to the product vision that the team is tasked with achieving.

Person specification



Essential Criteria, skills and experience:



Excellent communication skills (spoken, written, and listening) including experience of translating complex information for a variety of audiences. You can work independently and as part of a high performing team to deliver objectives effectively. You have experience of researching and analysing information, ideally including product user research. You have experience of delivering successfully to deadlines and prioritising your work. Ability to quickly develop an understanding of Met Office weather and climate products and identify their importance to customers
